BrentonAnd thou, son of man, wilt thou judge the bloody city? yea, declare thou to her all her iniquities.

BrentonAnd thou shalt say, Thus saith the Lord God: O city that sheds blood in the midst of her, so that her time should come, and that forms devices against herself, to defile herself;
4
ThomsonIn the blood which thou hast shed, thou art fallen; and with thine idols which thou hast made, thou art defiled; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and hast brought on the term of thy years; therefore I have made thee a scoff to the nations, and a mocking stock to all the countries-
Brentonin their blood which thou hast shed, thou hast transgressed; and in thy devices which thou hast formed, thou hast polluted thyself; and thou hast brought nigh thy days, and hast brought on the time of thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach to the Gentiles, and a mockery to all the countries,
5
Thomsonto those near and to those far from thee; and they shall insult thee, thou impure, infamous and abandoned city.
Brentonto those near thee, and to those far distant from thee; and they shall mock thee, thou that art notoriously unclean, and abundant in iniquities.
6
ThomsonBehold in thee the princes of the house of Israel banded themselves, each one with his relations, that they might shed blood.
BrentonBehold, the princes of the house of Israel have conspired in thee each one with his kindred, that they might shed blood.
7
ThomsonIn thee they reviled father and mother; and in thee practised injustice against the stranger. They oppressed the widow and orphan;
BrentonIn thee they have reviled father and mother; and in thee they have behaved unjustly toward the stranger: they have oppressed the orphan and widow.
8
Thomsonand in thee they despised My holy things and profaned My sabbaths.
BrentonAnd they have set at nought my holy things, and in thee they have profaned my sabbaths.
9
ThomsonIn thee men became robbers, that in thee they might shed blood. And they ate upon the mountains near thee; and in the midst of thee committed abominable things.
BrentonThere are robbers in thee, to shed blood in thee; and in thee they have eaten upon the mountains: they have wrought ungodliness in the midst of thee.
10
ThomsonIn thee they uncovered the nakedness of a father; and in thee humbled a woman in a state of menstruation.
BrentonIn thee they have uncovered the father's shame; and in thee they have humbled her that was set apart for uncleanness.
11
ThomsonIn tkee one debauched his neighbour’s wife; another wantonly defiled his daughter in law; and another humbled his sister, his father’s daughter.
BrentonThey have dealt unlawfully each one with his neighbour's wife; and each one in ungodliness has defiled his daughter-in-law: and in thee they have humbled each one his sister, the daughter of his father.
12
ThomsonIn thee they received bribes to shed blood. In thee they took interest and usury, and thou hast completed thy wickedness by oppression. And Me thou hast forgotten, saith the Lord.
BrentonIn thee they have received gifts to shed blood; they have received in thee interest and usurious increase; and by oppression thou hast brought thy wickedness to the full, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord.
13
ThomsonNow when I lay My hand on thee to destroy thee, for what thou hast done and for the blood which hath been shed in thee, -
BrentonAnd if I shall smite my hand at thine iniquities which thou hast accomplished, which thou hast wrought, and at thy blood that has been shed in the midst of thee,
14
Thomsonwill thy heart endure? Will thy hands be strong in the day I deal with thee? I the Lord have spoken, and I will perform.
Brentonshall thy heart endure? shall thine hands be strong in the days which I bring upon thee? I the Lord have spoken, and will do it.
15
ThomsonI will scatter thee among the nations and disperse thee through the countries, and when thine impurity shall be consumed out of thee,
BrentonAnd I will scatter thee among the nations, and disperse thee in the countries, and thy uncleanness shall be removed out of thee.
16
ThomsonI will take possession of thee in the sight of all the nations; and you shall know that I am the Lord.
BrentonAnd I will give heritages in thee in the sight of the nations, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
17
ThomsonAgain a word of the Lord came to me, saying,
BrentonAnd the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
18
Thomsonson of man, Behold to Me the house of Israel are all become mixed with brass and iron and tin and lead with a mixture of silver.
BrentonSon of man, behold, the house of Israel are all become to me as it were mixed with brass, and iron, and tin, and lead; they are mixed up in the midst of silver.
19
ThomsonTherefore say, Thus saith the Lord God: Because you are become one mass, I will therefore gather you into the midst of Jerusalem:
BrentonTherefore say, Thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have become one mixture, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.
20
Thomsonas silver and brass and iron and tin and lead are put in a furnace, that the fire may be blown on it and that it may be melted; so will I take you in My wrath and gather you and melt you.
BrentonAs silver, and brass, and iron, and tin, and lead, are gathered into the midst of the furnace, to blow fire into it, that they may be melted: so will I take you in my wrath, and I will gather and melt you.
21
ThomsonAnd I will blow upon you with the fire of My wrath and you shall be melted in the midst of it.
BrentonAnd I will blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and ye shall be melted in the midst thereof.
22
ThomsonAs silver is melted in the midst of a furnace; so shall you be melted in the midst of it; and you shall know that I the Lord have poured out My wrath on you.
BrentonAs silver is melted in the midst of a furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I the Lord have poured out my wrath upon you.
23
ThomsonAgain a word ot the Lord came to me, saying:
BrentonAnd the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
24
ThomsonSon of man, say to this land, Thou art a land which was not watered with showers; nor did rain fall upon thee in the day of indignation.
BrentonSon of man, say to her, Thou art the land that is not rained upon, neither has rain come upon thee in the day of wrath:
25
ThomsonIts princes in the midst of it were like roaring lions, ravening prey, devouring souls by oppression, yet receiving honours; and thy widows were multiplied in the midst of thee.
Brentonwhose princes in the midst of her are as roaring lions seizing prey, devouring souls by oppression, and taking bribes; and thy widows are multiplied in the midst of thee.
26
ThomsonIts priests also despised My law and profaned My holy things; between what was holy and what was profane they made no difference, nor did they distinguish between the unclean and the clean. And from My sabbaths they hid their eyes and I was profaned in the midst of them.
BrentonHer priests also have set at nought my law, and profaned my holy things: they have not distinguished between the holy and profane, nor have they distinguished between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I was profaned in the midst of them.
27
ThomsonIts chiefs in the midst of it were like wolves, ravening prey, to the shedding of innocent blood, that they may glut their greediness.
BrentonHer princes in the midst of her are as wolves ravening to shed blood, that they may get dishonest gain.
28
ThomsonThey shall fall together with its prophets who anointed them, seeing vanities, prophesying lies, saying, Thus saith the Lord, though the Lord did not speak,
BrentonAnd her prophets that daub them shall fall, that see vanities, that prophesy falsehoods, saying, Thus saith the Lord, when the Lord has not spoken.
29
Thomsoncrushing by usurped authority the people of the land, and ravening prey, oppressing the poor and needy, and paying no regard to strangers to the administration of justice.
BrentonThat sorely oppress the people of the land with injustice, and commit robbery; oppressing the poor and needy, and not dealing justly with the stranger.
30
ThomsonThough I sought among them for a man of integrity and for one who stood uprightly before Me in the time of indignation that I might not utterly destroy it, yet I found none:
BrentonAnd I sought from among them a man behaving uprightly, and standing before me perfectly in the time of wrath, so that I should not utterly destroy her: but I found him not.
31
Thomsontherefore I poured out My wrath upon it, to destroy it utterly with the fire of Mine indignation. Their ways I have requited on their heads, saith the Lord God
BrentonSo I have poured out my wrath upon her in the fury of mine anger, to accomplish it. I have recompensed their ways on their own heads, saith the Lord God.
