BrentonAnd Abraam circumcised Isaac on the eighth day, as God commanded him.
5

BrentonAnd Abraam was a hundred years old when Isaac his son was born to him.
6
ThomsonAnd Sarah said, The Lord hath made laughter for me; for whoever shall hear will rejoice with me.
BrentonAnd Sarrha said, The Lord has made laughter for me, for whoever shall hear shall rejoice with me.
7
ThomsonAnd she said, Who will tell Abraham that Sarah is suckling a child—that I have born a son in my old age!
BrentonAnd she said, Who shall say to Abraam that Sarrha suckles a child? for I have born a child in my old age.
8
ThomsonAnd the child grew and was weaned and Abraham made a great entertainment on the day his son Isaak was weaned.

9
ThomsonAnd when Sarah saw the son of Agar the Egyptian who was born to Abraham sporting with her son Isaak,
BrentonAnd Sarrha having seen the son of Agar the Egyptian who was born to Abraam, sporting with Isaac her son,
10
Thomsonshe said to Abraham, Send away this girl and her son; for the son of this girl shall not be heir with my son Isaak.
Brentonthen she said to Abraam, Cast out this bondwoman and her son, for the son of this bondwoman shall not inherit with my son Isaac.
11
ThomsonAnd the thing appeared very hard in Abraham’s view, touching his son.
BrentonBut the word appeared very hard before Abraam concerning his son.
12
ThomsonBut God said to Abraham, Let not this respecting thy son and respecting the handmaid appear hard in thy view. Hearken to the voice of Sarah in whatever she may have said to thee. For in Isaak a seed shall be called for thee.
BrentonBut God said to Abraam, Let it not be hard before thee concerning the child, and concerning the bondwoman; in all things whatsoever Sarrha shall say to thee, hear her voice, for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
13
ThomsonNevertheless I will make the son of this handmaid a great nation, because he is thy seed.
BrentonAnd moreover I will make the son of this bondwoman a great nation, because he is thy seed.
14
ThomsonSo Abraham arose early the next morning and took loaves and a skin full of water, and when he had put them on her shoulder he gave the boy to Agar and sent her away. And she departing lost her way between the wilderness and Well of the Oath;
BrentonAnd Abraam rose up in the morning and took loaves and a skin of water, and gave them to Agar, and he put the child on her shoulder, and sent her away, and she having departed wandered in the wilderness near the well of the oath.
15
ThomsonAnd the water in the skin being spent she laid the boy under the first pine tree
BrentonAnd the water failed out of the skin, and she cast the child under a fir tree.
16
Thomsonand going away sat down over against him at the distance of about a bowshot. For she said, I cannot behold the death of my son. So she sat over against him and the lad wept with a loud voice.
BrentonAnd she departed and sat down opposite him at a distance, as it were a bow-shot, for she said, Surely I cannot see the death of my child: and she sat opposite him, and the child cried aloud and wept.
17
ThomsonAnd God heard the voice of the lad from the place where he was. And an angel of God called to Agar out of heaven and said, What is the matter, Agar? Fear not. For God hath heard the voice of the lad from the place where he is.
BrentonAnd God heard the voice of the child from the place where he was, and an angel of God called Agar out of heaven, and said to her, What is it, Agar? fear not, for God has heard the voice of the child from the place where he is.
18
ThomsonArise and take up the boy and support him with thy hand; for I will make him a great nation.
BrentonRise up, and take the child, and hold him in thine hand, for I will make him a great nation.
19
ThomsonAnd God opened her eyes and she saw a well of spring water. So she went and filled the vessel with water and gave the boy drink.
BrentonAnd God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of springing water; and she went and filled the skin with water, and gave the child drink.
20
ThomsonAnd God was with the lad and he grew and dwelt in the wilderness and became a bowman.
BrentonAnd God was with the child, and he grew and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.
21
ThomsonThus he dwelt in the wilderness, and his mother took for him a wife from Pharan of Egypt.
BrentonAnd he dwelt in the wilderness, and his mother took him a wife out of Pharan of Egypt.
22
ThomsonNow it happened at that time that Abimelech, accompanied with Ochozath his chamberlain and Phichol the general of his army, spoke to Abraham saying, God is with thee in all that thou dost.
BrentonAnd it came to pass at that time that Abimelech spoke, and Ochozath his friend, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, to Abraam, saying, God is with thee in all things, whatsoever thou mayest do.
23
ThomsonNow therefore swear to me by God, that thou wilt not injure me nor my seed nor my name; but that according to the kindness with which I have treated thee, thou wilt deal with me and this land in which thou hast sojourned.
BrentonNow therefore swear to me by God that thou wilt not injure me, nor my seed, nor my name, but according to the righteousness which I have performed with thee thou shalt deal with me, and with the land in which thou hast sojourned.
24
ThomsonAnd Abraham said, I swear.
BrentonAnd Abraam said, I will swear.
25
ThomsonThen Abraham expostulated with Abimelech touching the wells of water which the servants of Abimelech had taken.
BrentonAnd Abraam reproved Abimelech because of the wells of water, which the servants of Abimelech took away.
26
ThomsonAnd Abimelech said to him, I did not know that any one had done this to thee. Thou didst not tell me, nor did I hear of it till this day.
BrentonAnd Abimelech said to him, I know not who has done this thing to thee, neither didst thou tell it me, neither heard I it but only to-day.
27
ThomsonThen Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech; and they both made a covenant.
BrentonAnd Abraam took sheep and calves, and gave them to Abimelech, and both made a covenant.

BrentonAnd Abimelech said to Abraam, What are these seven ewe-lambs which thou hast set alone?
GreekΚαὶ εἶπεν Ἀβιμέλεχ τῷ Ἁβραὰμ, τί εἰσιν αἱ ἑπτὰ ἀμνάδες τῶν προβάτων τούτων, ἃς ἔστησας μόνας;
30
ThomsonUpon which Abraham said, These seven ewe lambs thou wilt take of me that they may be a witness for me, that I digged this well.
BrentonAnd Abraam said, Thou shalt receive the seven ewe-lambs of me, that they may be for me as a witness, that I dug this well.
31
ThomsonFor this cause he called the name of that place, Well of the Oath, because both of them swore there
BrentonTherefore he named the name of that place, The Well of the Oath, for there they both swore.
32
Thomsonand made a covenant at Well of the Oath. Then arose Abimelech and Ochozath his chamberlain and Phichol the general of his army and returned to the land of the Philistines;

33
Thomsonand Abraham planted a field at Well of the Oath and there invoked the name of the Lord, the everlasting God.
BrentonAnd Abraam planted a field at the well of the oath, and called there on the name of the Lord, the everlasting God.
34
ThomsonAnd Abraham sojourned many days in the land of the Philistines.
BrentonAnd Abraam sojourned in the land of the Phylistines many days.
