BrentonAnd they departed thence and encamped on the other side of Arnon in the wilderness, the country which extends from the coasts of the Amorites; for Arnon is the borders of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
14
ThomsonFor this cause it is said in a book: The war of the Lord burned Zoob and the vales of Arnon,

17
ThomsonThen sung Israel this song to the well,
Begin to him the alternate song of the well.
Begin to him the alternate song of the well.
BrentonThen Israel sang this song at the well, Begin to sing of the well;

And from Well they moved on to Manthanaein;
Brentonthe princes digged it, the kings of the nations in their kingdom, in their lordship sank it in the rock: and they went from the well to Manthanain,
19
Thomsonand from Manthanaein to Naaliel; and from Naaliel to Bamoth;
Brentonand from Manthanain to Naaliel, and from Naaliel to Bamoth, and from Bamoth to Janen, which is in the plain of Moab as seen from the top of the quarried rock that looks toward the wilderness.
20
Thomsonand from Bamoth to Nepe, which is in that plain of Moab bordering on the craggy cliff, namely, that which looketh towards the wilderness.
BrentonAnd Moses sent ambassadors to Seon king of the Amorites, with peaceable words, saying,
21
ThomsonNow Moses had sent messengers to Seon, king of the Amorites, with a message of peace, saying,
BrentonWe will pass through thy land, we will go by the road; we will not turn aside to the field or to the vineyard.
22
ThomsonLet us pass through thy land. We will march by the highway; we will not turn aside into the fields, nor into the vineyards; nor will we drink water out of thy wells. Let us march along the king’s highway, until we pass thy borders.
BrentonWe will not drink water out of thy well; we will go by the king's highway, until we have past thy boundaries.
23
ThomsonBut Seon would not grant Israel a passage through his territories. He indeed assembled all his people, and went out to the wilderness, to attack Israel, and came to Jessa, and drew up in array against Israel.
BrentonAnd Seon did not allow Israel to pass through his borders, and Seon gathered all his people, and went out to set the battle in array against Israel into the wilderness; and he came to Jassa, and set the battle in array against Israel.
24
ThomsonWhereupon Israel smote him with the slaughter of the sword, and took possession of his land, from Arnon to Jabok, even to the Ammanites; for Jazer is the boundary of the Ammanites.
BrentonAnd Israel smote him with the slaughter of the sword, and they became possessors of his land, from Arnon to Jaboc, as far as the children of Amman, for Jazer is the borders of the children of Amman.
25
ThomsonSo Israel took all those cities; and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Hesebon, and in all those under the same dominion with it;
BrentonAnd Israel took all their cities, and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Esebon, and in all cities belonging to it.
26
Thomsonfor Hesebon was the city of Seon the king of the Amorites. He indeed had made war on a former king of Moab, and had taken all his land from Aroer to Arnon;
BrentonFor Esebon is the city of Seon king of the Amorites; and he before fought against the king of Moab, and they took all his land, from Aroer to Arnon.
27
Thomsonfor this cause the poets say,
Come to Hesebon that it may be rebuilded,
And that the city of Seon may be inhabited.
Come to Hesebon that it may be rebuilded,
And that the city of Seon may be inhabited.
BrentonTherefore say they who deal in dark speeches, Come to Esebon, that the city of Seon may be built and prepared.
28
ThomsonFor a fire went forth from Hesebon—
And a flame from the city of Seon;
Which devoured even to Moab—
Which devoured the pillars of Arnon.
And a flame from the city of Seon;
Which devoured even to Moab—
Which devoured the pillars of Arnon.
BrentonFor a fire has gone forth from Esebon, a flame from the city of Seon, and has consumed as far as Moab, and devoured the pillars of Arnon.

ThomsonAlas! for thee O Moab!
Thou wast undone, O people of Chamos! Their sons were delivered up to save their lives; And their daughters were captives to Seon, king of the Amorites,
Thou wast undone, O people of Chamos! Their sons were delivered up to save their lives; And their daughters were captives to Seon, king of the Amorites,
BrentonWoe to thee, Moab; thou art lost, thou people of Chamos: their sons are sold for preservation, and their daughters are captives to Seon king of the Amorites.
30
ThomsonAnd their seed was destroyed from Hesebon even to Daibon. And against Moab their wives rekindled a fire.
BrentonAnd their seed shall perish from Esebon to Dæbon; and their women have yet farther kindled a fire against Moab.
31
ThomsonAnd when Israel had taken possession of all the cities of the Amorites:
BrentonAnd Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites.
32
ThomsonMoses sent to view Jazer, and they took it, and all the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites who were there.
BrentonAnd Moses sent to spy out Jazer; and they took it, and its villages, and cast out the Amorite that dwelt there.
33
ThomsonThen they turned and went up by the way of Basan. And when Og king of Basan came out to meet them, he and all his people, for battle at Adraim,
BrentonAnd having returned, they went up the road that leads to Basan; and Og the king of Basan went forth to meet them, and all his people to war to Edrain.
34
Thomsonthe Lord said to Moses, Be not afraid of him; for into thy hands I will deliver him, and all his people, and all his land; And thou shalt do to him, as thou hast done to Seon, the king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Hesebon.
BrentonAnd the Lord said to Moses, Fear him not; for I have delivered him and all his people, and all his land, into thy hands; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst to Seon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Esebon.
35
ThomsonSo he smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was not one left to be taken alive. And they took possession of their land.
BrentonAnd he smote him and his sons, and all his people, until he left none of his to be taken alive; and they inherited his land.
