ThomsonO GIVE thanks to the Lord, for He is good: for to everlasting His mercy endureth.

ThomsonLet this be said by them whom the Lord hath redeemed—whom he hath redeemed from an enemy’s hand—
BrentonO God, my heart is ready, my heart is ready; I will sing and sing psalms with my glory.
GreekἙτοίμη ἡ καρδία μου ὁ Θεὸς, ἑτοίμη ἡ καρδία μου, ᾄσομαι καὶ ψαλῶ ἐν τῇ δόξῃ μου.

Thomsonwhom he hath gathered out of the countries; from the east and west and north and south.
BrentonAwake, psaltery and harp; I will awake early.
GreekἘξεγέρθητι ψαλτήριον καὶ κιθάρα, ἐξεγερθήσομαι ὄρθρου.

ThomsonThey had wandered in the desert in a land without water; they found no way to a city of habitation.
BrentonI will give thanks to thee, O Lord, among the people; I will sing praise to thee among the Gentiles.
GreekἘξομολογήσομαί σοι ἐν λαοῖς Κύριε, ψαλῶ σοι ἐν ἔθνεσιν.

ThomsonThey were hungry and thirsty. Their soul within them fainted:
BrentonFor thy mercy is great above the heavens, and thy truth reaches to the clouds.
GreekὍτι μέγα ἐπάνω τῶν οὐρανῶν τὸ ἔλεός σου, καὶ ἕως τῶν νεφελῶν ἡ ἀλήθειά σου.

Thomsonthen they cried to the Lord in their affliction; and He delivered them from their distresses:
BrentonBe thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; and thy glory above all the earth.
GreekὙψώθητι ἐπὶ τοὺς οὐρανοὺς, ὁ Θεὸς, καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἡ δόξα σου.

Thomsonand conducted them to a straight road; that they might go to a city of habitation.
BrentonThat thy beloved ones may be delivered, save with thy right hand, and hear me. God has spoken in his sanctuary;
GreekὍπως ἂν ῥυσθῶσιν οἱ ἀγαπητοί σου, σῶσον τῇ δεξιᾷ σου, καὶ ἐπάκουσόν μου.

ThomsonO let them praise the Lord for His mercies; and for His wonderful dealings with the sons of men:
BrentonI will be exalted, and will divide Sicima, and will measure out the valley of tents.
GreekὉ Θεὸς ἐλάλησεν ἐν τῷ ἁγίῳ αὐτοῦ, ὑψωθήσομαι καὶ διαμεριῶ Σίκιμα, καὶ τὴν κοιλάδα τῶν σκηνῶν διαμετρήσω.

Thomsonbecause He hath satisfied the longing soul; and filled the hungry with good things.
BrentonGalaad is mine; and Manasses is mine; and Ephraim is the help of mine head; Judas is my king;
GreekἘμός ἐστι Γαλαὰδ, καὶ ἐμός ἐστι Μανασσῆς, καὶ Ἐφραίμ ἀντίληψις τῆς κεφαλῆς μου· Ἰούδας βασιλεύς μου,

ThomsonAs for them who sat in darkness and the shadow of death; bound with affliction and irons;
BrentonMoab is the caldron of my hope; over Idumea will I cast my sandal; the Philistines are made subject to me.
GreekΜωὰβ λέβης τῆς ἐλπίδος μου· ἐπὶ τὴν Ἰδουμαίαν ἐπιβαλῶ τὸ ὑπόδημά μου, ἐμοὶ ἀλλόφυλοι ὑπετάγησαν.

Thomsonbecause they rebelled against the oracles of God; and contemned the counsel of the Most High:
BrentonWho will bring me into the fortified city? or who will guide me to Idumea?
GreekΤίς ἀπάξει με εἰς πόλιν περιοχῆς; ἢ τίς ὁδηγήσει με ἕως τῆς Ἰδουμαίας;

Thomsonwhen their heart was brought low by troubles—when they were weak and there was no helper:
BrentonWilt not thou, O God, who hast rejected us? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts?
GreekΟὐχὶ σὺ ὁ Θεὸς ὁ ἀπωσάμενος ἡμᾶς; καὶ οὐκ ἐξελεύσῃ ὁ Θεὸς ἐν ταῖς δυνάμεσιν ἡμῶν;

Thomsonthen they cried to the Lord in their affliction; and He saved them from their distresses;
BrentonGive us help from tribulation: for vain is the help of man.
GreekΔὸς ἡμῖν βοήθειαν ἐκ θλίψεως, καὶ ματαία σωτηρία ἀνθρώπου.

Thomsonand brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death; and burst their chains asunder.
BrentonThrough God we shall do valiantly; and he will bring to nought our enemies.
GreekἘν τῷ Θεῷ ποιήσομεν δύναμιν, καὶ αὐτὸς ἐξουδενώσει τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ἡμῶν.
