Thomson 1808
Brenton 1851
Greek · Brenton
1
ThomsonIN the Lord I have placed my confidence; how say ye to my soul, Away to the mountains as an ostrich.
BrentonFor the end, a Psalm of David, upon the eighth.
2
ThomsonFor behold the sinners have bent a bow: they have provided arrows for a quiver; to shoot privily the upright in heart.
BrentonSave me, O Lord; for the godly man has failed; for truth is diminished from among the children of men.
3
ThomsonFor what Thou didst build up, they have pulled down. Now what hath the righteous done?
BrentonEvery one has spoken vanity to his neighbour: their lips are deceitful, they have spoken with a double heart.
4
ThomsonThe Lord is in His holy temple. The Lord, Whose throne is in heaven; Whose eyes look down on the needy; Whose eyelids examine the sons of men—
BrentonLet the Lord destroy all the deceitful lips, and the tongue that speaks great words:
5
Thomsonthe Lord examineth both the righteous and the wicked. He then who loveth iniquity hateth his own soul.
Brentonwho have said, We will magnify our tongue; our lips are our own: who is Lord of us?
GreekΤοὺς εἰπόντας, τὴν γλῶσσαν ἡμῶν μεγαλυνοῦμεν, τὰ χείλη ἡμῶν παρʼ ἡμῶν ἐστι· τίς ἡμῶν Κύριός ἐστιν;
6
ThomsonUpon the wicked He will rain snares. Fire and brimstone and a tempestuous wind, shall be the portion of their cup.
BrentonBecause of the misery of the poor, and because of the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord, I will set them in safety; I will speak to them thereof openly.
7
ThomsonBecause the Lord is righteous, therefore He loved righteousness; His countenance beheld uprightness.
BrentonThe oracles of the Lord are pure oracles; as silver tried in the fire, proved in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
8
Thomson—
BrentonThou, O Lord, shalt keep us, and shalt preserve us, from this generation, and for ever.
9
Thomson—
BrentonThe ungodly walk around: according to thy greatness thou hast greatly exalted the sons of men.
