ThomsonWHY did nations rage? And tribes meditate vain things?
BrentonWherefore did the heathen rage, and the nations imagine vain things?
GreekἹνατί ἐφρύαξαν ἔθνη, καὶ λαοὶ ἐμελέτησαν κενά;

ThomsonThe kings of the earth combined; and the chiefs assembled together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, [saying]:
BrentonThe kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers gathered themselves together, against the Lord, and against his Christ;
GreekΠαρέστησαν οἱ βασιλεῖς τῆς γῆς, καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες συνήχθησαν ἐπιτοαυτὸ κατὰ τοῦ Κυρίου, καὶ κατὰ τοῦ Χριστοῦ αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonLet us break their bands asunder and throw off from us their yoke.
Brentonsaying, Let us break through their bonds, and cast away their yoke from us.
GreekΔιαῤῥήξωμεν τοὺς δεσμοὺς αὐτῶν, καὶ ἀποῤῥίψωμεν ἀφʼ ἡμῶν τὸν ζυγὸν αὐτῶν.

ThomsonHe who dwelleth in heaven will laugh them to scorn—the Lord will treat them with derision.
BrentonHe that dwells in the heavens shall laugh them to scorn, and the Lord shall mock them.
GreekὉ κατοικῶν ἐν οὐρανοῖς ἐκγελάσεται αὐτοὺς, καὶ ὁ Κύριος ἐκμυκτηριεῖ αὐτούς.

ThomsonThen will He speak to them in His wrath and trouble them with His sore displeasure.
BrentonThen shall he speak to them in his anger, and trouble them in his fury.
GreekΤότε λαλήσει πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἐν ὀργῇ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐν τῷ θυμῷ αὐτοῦ ταράξει αὐτούς.

ThomsonBut as for me, by him I am appointed king on Sion, His holy mountain.

Thou art my Son, this day I have begotten thee,
Thou art my Son, this day I have begotten thee,

ThomsonAsk of Me, and I will give thee nations for thine inheritance, and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession.

ThomsonKeep fast hold of instruction; the Lord may be angry and you may perish out of the right way. When His anger suddenly blazeth forth, happy are all they who have trusted in Him.
BrentonAccept correction, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and ye should perish from the righteous way: whensoever his wrath shall be suddenly kindled, blessed are all they that trust in him.
GreekΔράξασθε παιδείας, μή ποτε ὀργισθῇ Κύριος, καὶ ἀπολεῖσθε ἐξ ὁδοῦ δικαίας· ὅταν ἐκκαυθῇ ἐν τάχει ὁ θυμὸς αὐτοῦ, μακάριοι πάντες οἱ πεποιθότες ἐπʼ αὐτῷ.
