ThomsonO LORD, in Thy strength, the king will rejoice; and exult greatly in Thy salvation.
BrentonFor the end, concerning the morning aid, a Psalm of David.
GreekΕἰς τὸ τέλος, ὑπὲρ τῆς ἀντιλήψεως τῆς ἑωθινῆς, ψαλμὸς τῷ Δαυίδ.

ThomsonThou hast granted him the desire of his soul, and hast not denied him the request of his lips.
BrentonO God, my God, attend to me: why hast thou forsaken me? the account of my transgressions is far from my salvation.
GreekὉ Θεός ὁ Θεός μου, πρόσχες μοι, ἱνατί ἐγκατέλιπές με; μακρὰν ἀπὸ τῆς σωτηρίας μου οἱ λόγοι τῶν παραπτωμάτων μου.

ThomsonFor Thou hast pre-engaged him with kind blessings. Thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones.
BrentonO my God, I will cry to thee by day, but thou wilt not hear: and by night, and it shall not be accounted for folly to me.
GreekΟ Θεός μου, κεκράξομαι ἡμέρας πρὸς σὲ καὶ οὐκ εἰσακούσῃ, καὶ νυκτὸς καὶ οὐκ εἰς ἄνοιαν ἐμοί.

ThomsonHe asked of Thee life; and Thou hast given him length of days forever.
BrentonBut thou, the praise of Israel, dwellest in a sanctuary.
GreekΣὺ δὲ ἐν ἁγίῳ κατοικεῖς, ὁ ἔπαινος τοῦ Ἰσραήλ.

ThomsonBy Thy salvation his glory is great. Thou wilt confer on him honour and majesty.
BrentonOur fathers hoped in thee; they hoped, and thou didst deliver them.
GreekἘπὶ σοὶ ἤλπισαν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν, ἤλπισαν καὶ ἐῤῥύσω αὐτούς.

ThomsonFor Thou wilt give him everlasting blessing; and with the joy of Thy countenance make him glad.
BrentonThey cried to thee, and were saved: they hoped in thee, and were not ashamed.
GreekΠρὸς σὲ ἐκέκραξαν καὶ ἐσώθησαν, ἐπὶ σοὶ ἤλπισαν καὶ οὐ κατῃσχύνθησαν.

ThomsonBecause the king trusteth in the Lord: therefore, through the mercy of the Most High, he cannot be shaken.
BrentonBut I am a worm, and not a man; a reproach of men, and scorn of the people.
GreekἘγὼ δέ εἰμι σκώληξ καὶ οὐκ ἄνθρωπος, ὄνειδος ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἐξουδένημα λαοῦ.

ThomsonLet Thine enemies feel Thy hand: and Thy right hand find out all that hate Thee.
BrentonAll that saw me mocked me: they spoke with their lips, they shook the head, saying,
GreekΠάντες οἱ θεωροῦντές με ἐξεμυκτήρισάν με, ἐλάλησαν ἐν χείλεσιν, ἐκίνησαν κεφαλὴν,

ThomsonThou wilt make them like an oven of fire, at the time of Thy presence. The Lord with His wrath will confound them, and a fire shall devour them.
BrentonHe hoped in the Lord: let him deliver him, let him save him, because he takes pleasure in him.
Greekἤλπισεν ἐπὶ Κύριον, ῥυσάσθω αὐτὸν, σωσάτω αὐτὸν, ὅτι θέλει αὐτόν.

ThomsonThou wilt destroy their fruit from the earth, and their seed from among the sons of men.
BrentonFor thou art he that drew me out of the womb; my hope from my mother's breasts.
GreekὍτι σὺ εἶ ὁ ἐκσπάσας με ἐκ γαστρὸς, ἡ ἐλπίς μου ἀπὸ μαστῶν τῆς μητρός μου,

ThomsonBecause on Thee they were turning evils. Were devising a counsel which they could not accomplish—
BrentonI was cast on thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.
Greekἐπὶ σὲ ἐπεῤῥίφην ἐκ μήτρας· ἐκ κοιλίας μητρός μου Θεός μου εἶ σύ.

Thomsonbecause Thou wilt set them behind those Thou hast left—wilt prepare others to be before them.
BrentonStand not aloof from me; for affliction is near; for there is no helper.
GreekΜὴ ἀποστῇς ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ· ὅτι θλίψις ἐγγὺς, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ βοηθῶν.

ThomsonBe Thou, O Lord, exalted by Thy power: let us sing and extol Thy acts of government.
BrentonMany bullocks have compassed me: fat bulls have beset me round.
GreekΠεριεκύκλωσάν με μόσχοι πολλοί, ταῦροι πίονες περιέσχον με.

BrentonThey have opened their mouth against me, as a ravening and roaring lion.
GreekἬνοιξαν ἐπʼ ἐμὲ τὸ στόμα αὐτῶν, ὡς λέων ὁ ἁρπάζων καὶ ὠρυόμενος.

BrentonI am poured out like water, and all my bones are loosened: my heart in the midst of my belly is become like melting wax.
GreekὩσεὶ ὕδωρ ἐξεχύθην, καὶ διεσκορπίσθη πάντα τὰ ὀστᾶ μου, ἐγενήθη ἡ καρδία μου ὡσεὶ κηρὸς τηκόμενος ἐν μέσῳ τῆς κοιλίας μου.

BrentonMy strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue is glued to my throat; and thou hast brought me down to the dust of death.
GreekἘξηράνθη ὡσεὶ ὄστρακον ἡ ἰσχύς μου, καὶ ἡ γλῶσσά μου κεκόλληται τῷ λάρυγγί μου, καὶ εἰς χοῦν θανάτου κατήγαγές με.

BrentonBut thou, O Lord, remove not my help afar off: be ready for mine aid.
GreekΣὺ δὲ Κύριε μὴ μακρύνῃς τὴν βοήθειάν μου, εἰς τὴν ἀντίληψίν μου πρόσχες.

BrentonDeliver my soul from the sword; my only-begotten one from the power of the dog.
GreekῬῦσαι ἀπὸ ῥομφαίας τὴν ψυχήν μου, καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς κυνὸς τὴν μονογενῆ μου.

BrentonSave me from the lion's mouth; and regard my lowliness from the horns of the unicorns.
GreekΣῶσόν με ἐκ στόματος λέοντος, καὶ ἀπὸ κεράτων μονοκερώτων τὴν ταπείνωσίν μου.

BrentonI will declare thy name to my brethren: in the midst of the church will I sing praise to thee.
GreekΔιηγήσομαι τὸ ὄνομά σου τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς μου, ἐν μέσῳ ἐκκλησίας ὑμνήσω σε.

BrentonYe that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye seed of Jacob, glorify him: let all the seed of Israel fear him.
GreekΟἱ φοβούμενοι Κύριον αἰνέσατε αὐτὸν, ἅπαν τὸ σπέρμα Ἰακὼβ δοξάσατε αὐτὸν, φοβηθήτωσαν αὐτὸν ἅπαν τὸ σπέρμα Ἰσραήλ.

BrentonFor he has not despised nor been angry at the supplication of the poor; nor turned away his face from me; but when I cried to him, he heard me.
GreekΟτι οὐκ ἐξουδένωσεν οὐδὲ προσώχθισε τῇ δεήσει τοῦ πτωχοῦ, οὐδὲ ἀπέστρεψε τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ· καὶ ἐν τῷ κεκραγέναι με πρὸς αὐτὸν εἰσήκουσέ μου.

BrentonMy praise is of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.
GreekΠαρὰ σοῦ ὁ ἔπαινός μου ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ μεγάλῃ, τὰς εὐχάς μου ἀποδώσω ἐνώπιον τῶν φοβουμένων αὐτόν.

BrentonThe poor shall eat and be satisfied; and they shall praise the Lord that seek him: their heart shall live for ever.
GreekΦάγονται πένητες καὶ ἐμπλησθήσονται, καὶ αἰνέσουσι Κύριον οἱ ἐκζητοῦντες αὐτὸν, ζήσονται αἱ καρδίαι αὐτῶν εἰς αἰῶνα αἰῶνος.

BrentonAll the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before him.
GreekΜνησθήσονται καὶ ἐπιστραφήσονται πρὸς Κύριον πάντα τὰ πέρατα τῆς γῆς, καὶ προσκυνήσουσιν ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ πᾶσαι αἱ πατριαὶ τῶν ἐθνῶν.

BrentonAll the fat ones of the earth have eaten and worshipped: all that go down to the earth shall fall down before him: my soul also lives to him.
GreekἜφαγον καὶ προσεκύνησαν πάντες οἱ πίονες τῆς γῆς· ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ προπεσοῦνται πάντες οἱ καταβαίνοντες εἰς τὴν γῆν· καὶ ἡ ψυχή μου αὐτῷ ζῇ,

BrentonAnd my seed shall serve him: the generation that is coming shall be reported to the Lord.
Greekκαὶ τὸ σπέρμα μου δουλεύσει αὐτῷ· ἀναγγελήσεται τῷ Κυρίῳ γενεὰ ἡ ἐρχομένη·

BrentonAnd they shall report his righteousness to the people that shall be born, whom the Lord has made.
GreekΚαὶ ἀναγγελοῦσι τὴν δικαιοσύνην αὐτοῦ λαῷ τῷ τεχθησομένῳ, ὃν ἐποίησεν ὁ Κύριος.
