ThomsonIN Thee, O Lord, I have trusted. Let me never be put to shame. In Thy saving mercy rescue me and deliver me—

GreekΣυνέσεως τῷ Δαυίδ. Μακάριοι ὧν ἀφέθησαν αἱ ἀνομίαι, καὶ ὧν ἐπεκαλύφθησαν αἱ ἁμαρτίαι.

ThomsonIncline Thine ear to me! haste to deliver me. Be Thou to me a protecting God—a house of refuge to save me.
BrentonBlessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin, and in whose mouth there is no guile.
GreekΜακάριος ἀνὴρ ᾧ οὐ μὴ λογίσηται Κύριος ἁμαρτίαν, οὐδέ ἐστιν ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτοῦ δόλος.

ThomsonBecause Thou art my strength and my refuge; Thou therefore, for Thy name’s sake, wilt guide and nourish me:
BrentonBecause I kept silence, my bones waxed old, from my crying all the day.
GreekὍτι ἐσίγησα, ἐπαλαιώθη τὰ ὀστᾶ μου, ἀπὸ τοῦ κράζειν με ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν.

ThomsonThou wilt extricate me from this snare, which they have privily laid for me. Because Thou, O Lord, art my protector;
BrentonFor day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: I became thoroughly miserable while a thorn was fastened in me. Pause.
GreekὍτι ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτὸς ἐβαρύνθη ἐπʼ ἐμὲ ἡ χείρ σου, ἐστράφην εἰς ταλαιπωρίαν ἐν τῷ ἐμπαγῆναι ἄκανθαν· διάψαλμα.

Thomsoninto Thy hands I will commit my spirit. Thou, O Lord the God of truth hast redeemed me.
BrentonI acknowledged my sin, and hid not mine iniquity: I said, I will confess mine iniquity to the Lord against myself; and thou forgavest the ungodliness of my heart. Pause.
GreekΤὴν ἁμαρτίαν μου ἐγνώρισα, καὶ τὴν ἀνομίαν μου οὐκ ἐκάλυψα· εἶπα, ἐξαγορεύσω κατʼ ἐμοῦ τὴν ἀνομίαν μου τῷ Κυρίῳ, καὶ σὺ ἀφῆκας τὴν ἀσέβειαν τῆς καρδίας μου· διάψαλμα.

ThomsonThou hatedst them who fruitlessly regard vanities; but I have trusted in the Lord.
BrentonTherefore shall every holy one pray to thee in a fit time: only in the deluge of many waters they shall not come nigh to him.
GreekὙπὲρ ταύτης προσεύξεται πρὸς σὲ πᾶς ὅσιος ἐν καιρῷ εὐθέτῳ· πλὴν ἐν κατακλυσμῷ ὑδάτων πολλῶν πρὸς αὐτὸν οὐκ ἐγγιοῦσι.

ThomsonI will exult with joy and rejoice in Thy mercy: because Thou hast looked on my humiliation—hast delivered my soul from these distresses—
BrentonThou art my refuge from the affliction that encompasses me; my joy, to deliver me from them that have compassed me. Pause.
GreekΣύ μου εἶ καταφυγὴ ἀπὸ θλίψεως τῆς περιεχούσης με, τὸ ἀγαλλίαμά μου λύτρωσαί με ἀπὸ τῶν κυκλωσάντων με· διάψαλμα.

Thomsonhast not shut me up into an enemy’s hand—hast set my feet in a roomy place.
BrentonI will instruct thee and guide thee in this way wherein thou shalt go: I will fix mine eyes upon thee.
GreekΣυνετιῶ σε καὶ συμβιβῶ σε ἐν ὁδῷ ταύτῃ ᾗ πορεύσῃ, ἐπιστηριῶ ἐπὶ σὲ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς μου.

ThomsonPity me, O Lord, for I am afflicted: with indignation mine eye was troubled—my soul and all within me.
BrentonBe ye not as horse and mule, which have no understanding: but thou must constrain their jaws with bit and curb, lest they should come nigh to thee.
GreekΜὴ γίνεσθε ὡς ἵππος καὶ ἡμίονος, οἷς οὐκ ἔστι σύνεσις· ἐν χαλινῷ καὶ κημῷ τὰς σιαγόνας αὐτῶν ἄγξαι τῶν μὴ ἐγγιζόντων πρὸς σέ.

ThomsonBecause my life was spent with grief, and my years with sighing—with affliction my strength was exhausted and my bones were troubled;
BrentonMany are the scourges of the sinner: but him that hopes in the Lord mercy shall compass about.
GreekΠολλαὶ αἱ μάστιγες τοῦ ἁμαρτωλοῦ, τὸν δὲ ἐλπίζοντα ἐπὶ Κύριον ἔλεος κυκλώσει.

Thomsonamong all mine enemies I became a reproach; and to my neighbours especially, and to my acquaintance, a terror. They who saw me abroad fled from me;
BrentonBe glad in the Lord, and exult, ye righteous: and glory, all ye that are upright in heart.
GreekΕὐφράνθητε ἐπὶ Κύριον καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε δίκαιοι, καὶ καυχᾶσθε πάντες οἱ εὐθεῖς τῇ καρδίᾳ.
