ThomsonAND David said, This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar for whole burnt offerings for Israel.

ThomsonThen David ordered the strangers in the land of Israel to be assembled, and appointed stonecutters to cut hewn stones to build the house for God.
BrentonAnd David gave orders to gather all the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he appointed stone-hewers to hew polished stones to build the house to God.

ThomsonHe provided also iron in abundance for nails, for the doors and gates, and for hinges; and brass in abundance, without weight,

Thomsonand cedar beams innumerable; for the Sidonians and Tyrians, brought for David cedar timber in abundance.
BrentonAnd cedar trees without number: for the Sidonians and the Tyrians brought cedar trees in abundance to David.
GreekΚαὶ ξύλα κέδρινα, οὐκ ἦν ἀριθμός· ὅτι ἐφέροσαν οἱ Σιδώνιοι καὶ οἱ Τύριοι ξύλα κέδρινα εἰς πλῆθος τῷ Δαυίδ.

ThomsonAnd David said, My son Solomon is young and tender, and the house to be built for the Lord is for extraordinary grandeur, for renown and glory, through every land, I will make provision for it. So David provided materials in abundance before his death.
BrentonAnd David said, My son Solomon is a tender child, and the house for me to build to the Lord is for superior magnificence for a name and for a glory through all the earth: I will make preparation for it. And David prepared abundantly before his death.

Thomsonwhen there came to me a word from the Lord saying, Thou hast shed much blood, and fought many battles, thou shalt not build a house for My name, because thou hast shed much blood on the earth before Me.

ThomsonBehold a son shall be born to thee. He shall be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies round about. For his name shall be Solomon; and I will give Israel peace and rest in his days.

Thomsonthen will He prosper thee, if thou be watchful to execute the statutes, and judgments, which the Lord enjoined on Israel by Moses. Quit thyself like a man, and be strong. Fear not nor be dismayed.
BrentonThen will he prosper thee, if thou take heed to do the commandments and judgments which the Lord commanded Moses for Israel: be courageous and strong; fear not, nor be terrified.

ThomsonNow behold according to my poor ability I have provided for the house of the Lord a hundred talents of gold, and ten hundred talents of silver, and brass and iron without weight, because of their abundance. I have also provided timber and stones, but thou must add thereto.

ThomsonAnd thou must add to the number of workmen of whom there are with thee artists and masons and carpenters and men skilled in every kind of work,
BrentonAnd of them that are with thee do thou add to the multitude of workmen; let there be artificers and masons, and carpenters, and every skilful workman in every work;

ThomsonDavid also gave a charge to all the chiefs of Israel to assist his son Solomon, saying,

ThomsonHath not the Lord been with you, and given you rest all around? For He hath delivered into your hands the inhabitants of this land, and the land is subdued before the Lord, and before His people.
BrentonIs not the Lord with you? and he has given you rest round about, for he has given into your hands the inhabitants of the land; and the land is subdued before the Lord, and before his people.
GreekΟὐχὶ Κύριος μεθʼ ὑμῶν; καὶ ἀνέπαυσεν ὑμᾶς κυκλόθεν, ὅτι ἔδωκεν ἐν ὑμῶν τοὺς κατοικοῦντας τὴν γῆν, καὶ ὑπετάγη ἡ γῆ ἐναντίον Κυρίου καὶ ἐναντίον λαοῦ αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonNow therefore apply your hearts, and your souls to seek the Lord your God and arise and build a sanctuary for your God, that you may carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the holy vessels of God, into the house to be built for the name of the Lord.
