1
ThomsonI SAW the Lord standing on the altar, and He said, Smite the propitiatory and let the porches be shaken, and cut them down on the heads of them all; and those of them who are left I will slay with the sword. Such of them as flee shall not get away; and such of them as escape shall not be saved.
BrentonI saw the Lord standing on the altar: and he said, Smite the mercy-seat, and the porch shall be shaken: and cut through into the heads of all; and I will slay the remnant of them with the sword: no one of them fleeing shall escape, and no one of them striving to save himself shall be delivered.
2
ThomsonThough they hide themselves in the mansion of the dead, thence My hand will drag them up. And though they climb up to heaven, thence I will bring them down.
BrentonThough they hide themselves in hell, thence shall my hand drag them forth; and though they go up to heaven, thence will I bring them down.
3
ThomsonThough they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, I will there search them out and take them. And should they go down from My sight into the depths of the sea, I will there give orders to the dragon and he will bite them.
BrentonIf they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, thence will I search them out and take them; and if they should go down from my presence into the depths of the sea, there will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them.
4
ThomsonAnd if they go into captivity before their enemies, I will there command the sword and it shall slay them. I will indeed keep Mine eyes fixed on them for evils and not for good—even I Who am the Lord,
BrentonAnd if they should go into captivity before the face of their enemies, there will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes against them for evil, and not for good.
5
Thomsonthe Lord God Almighty Who toucheth the earth and shaketh it, and all its inhabitants shall mourn, and its destruction shall swell like a river, and flow down like the river of Egypt;
BrentonAnd the Lord, the Lord God Almighty, is he that takes hold of the land, and causes it to shake, and all that inhabit it shall mourn; and its destruction shall go up as a river, and shall descend as the river of Egypt.
6
ThomsonWho buildeth His stairs up to heaven, and His tribunal on the foundations of the earth; Who calleth to Himself the water of the sea and poureth it out on the face of the earth, the Lord Almighty is His name.
BrentonIt is he that builds his ascent up to the sky, and establishes his promise on the earth; who calls the water of the sea, and pours it out on the face of the earth; the Lord Almighty is his name.
7
ThomsonAre not you, O Israelites, the same to Me as the Ethiopians, saith the Lord. Did I not bring Israel up out of the land of Egypt, and the Philistines out of Cappadocia and the Syrians from Bothras?
BrentonAre not ye to me as the sons of the Ethiopians, O children of Israel? saith the Lord. Did I not bring Israel up out of the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Cappadocia, and the Syrians out of the deep?
GreekΟὐχ ὡς υἱοὶ Αἰθιόπων ὑμεῖς ἐστὲ ἐμοὶ, υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ; λέγει Κύριος· οὐ τὸν Ἰσραὴλ ἀνήγαγον ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, καὶ τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους ἐκ Καππαδοκίας, καὶ τοὺς Σύρους ἐκ βόθρου;
8
ThomsonBehold the eyes of the Lord God are against every kingdom of sinners, and I will cut it off from the face of the earth. But because I will not utterly destroy the house of Israel, saith the Lord,
BrentonBehold, the eyes of the Lord God are upon the kingdom of sinners, and I will cut it off from the face of the earth; only I will not utterly cut off the house of Jacob, saith the Lord.
9
Thomsontherefore I order, and I will scatter the house of Israel among all the nations, as if they were winnowed with a fan; and not a morsel of it shall fall on this land.
BrentonFor I will give commandment, and sift the house of Israel among all the Gentiles, as corn is sifted in a sieve, and yet a fragment shall not in any wise fall upon the earth.
10
ThomsonBy the sword all the sinners of My people shall die who say, These evils shall not come near nor fall upon us.
BrentonAll the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who say, Calamities shall certainly not draw near, nor come upon us.
11
ThomsonIn that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David which hath fallen; I will rebuild those parts of it which have fallen to decay, and repair what have been demolished. I will indeed rebuild it as in the days of old,
BrentonIn that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and will rebuild the ruins of it, and will set up the parts thereof that have been broken down, and will build it up as in the ancient days:
12
Thomsonthat the rest of mankind may seek [the Lord], even all the nations who are called by My name, saith the Lord Who doth all these things.
Brentonthat the remnant of men, and all the Gentiles upon whom my name is called, may earnestly seek me, saith the Lord who does all these things.
13
ThomsonBehold the days are coming, saith the Lord, When the harvester shall overtake the grape-gatherer; and the grape shall begin to ripen at seeding time; and the mountains shall distil sweet wine; and all the hills shall be planted.
BrentonBehold, the days come, saith the Lord, when the harvest shall overtake the vintage, and the grapes shall ripen at seedtime; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall be planted.
14
ThomsonAnd I will bring back the captivity of My people Israel; and they shall rebuild the wasted cities and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards and drink the wine thereof, and make gardens and eat the fruits of them.
BrentonAnd I will turn the captivity of my people Israel, and they shall rebuild the ruined cities, and shall inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and shall drink the wine from them; and they shall form gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
15
ThomsonI will indeed plant them in their own land; and they shall no more be rooted up from the land which I have given them, saith the Lord God Almighty.
BrentonAnd I will plant them on their land, and they shall no more be plucked up from the land which I have given them, saith the Lord God Almighty.
