ThomsonAGAIN a word of the Lord came to me, saying,
BrentonAnd the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

ThomsonSon of man, set thy face against the children of Ammon and prophesy against them and
BrentonSon of man, set thy face steadfastly against the children of Ammon, and prophesy against them;

Thomsonthou shalt say to the children of Ammon, Hear a word of the Lord, Thus saith the Lord: Because you exulted over My sanctuary because it was profaned, and over the land of Israel because it was laid waste, and over the house of Juda, because they went into captivity;
Brentonand thou shalt say to the children of Ammon, Hear ye the word of the Lord; thus saith the Lord; Forasmuch as ye have rejoiced against my sanctuary, because it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, because it was laid waste; and against the house of Juda, because they went into captivity;
Greekκαὶ ἐρεῖς τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἀμμὼν, Ἀκούσατε λόγον Κυρίου· τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ἀνθʼ ὧν ἐπεχάρητε ἐπὶ τὰ ἅγιά μου, ὅτι ἐβεβηλώθη, καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ, ὅτι ἠφανίσθη, καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ἰούδα, ὅτι ἐπορεύθησαν ἐν αἰχμαλωσίᾳ,

Thomsontherefore behold I deliver you to the children of Kedem for a possession; and in their excursions they shall inhabit thee and pitch their tents in thee. They shall eat thy frnits and drink thy liquors.
Brentontherefore, behold, I will deliver you to the children of Kedem for an inheritance, and they shall lodge in thee with their stuff, and they shall pitch their tents in thee: they shall eat thy fruits, and they shall drink thy milk.
Greekδιατοῦτο ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ παραδίδωμι ὑμᾶς τοῖς υἱοῖς Κεδὲμ εἰς κληρονομίαν, καὶ κατασκηνώσουσιν ἐν τῇ ἀπαρτίᾳ αὐτῶν ἐν σοὶ, καὶ δώσουσιν ἐν σοὶ τὰ σκηνώματα αὐτῶν· αὐτοὶ φάγονται τοὺς καρπούς σου, καὶ αὐτοὶ πίονται τὴν πιότητά σου.

ThomsonAnd I will make the city of Ammon feeding places for camels; and the land of the Ammonites a pasture for sheep; and you shall know that I am the Lord.
BrentonAnd I will give up the city of Ammon for camels' pastures, and the children of Ammon for a pasture of sheep: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
GreekΚαὶ δώσω τὴν πόλιν τοῦ Ἀμμὼν εἰς νομὰς καμήλων, καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἀμμὼν εἰς νομὴν προβάτων, καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος.

ThomsonFor thus saith the Lord, Because thou didst clap thy hands and stamp with thy feet, and exult in thy soul over the land of Israel:
BrentonFor thus saith the Lord; Because thou hast clapped thine hands, and stamped with thy foot, and heartily rejoiced against the land of Israel;

Thomsontherefore 1 will stretch forth My hand against thee, and deliver thee up for a spoil to the nations: and I will utterly destroy thee from among the peoples, and cause thee to perish out of the countries, and you shall know that I am the Lord. [SJ Thus saith the Lord: Because Moab said, Behold, shall not
Brentontherefore I will stretch out my hand against thee, and I will make thee a spoil to the nations; and I will utterly destroy thee from among the peoples, and I will completely cut thee off from out of the countries: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.

Thomsonthe house of Israel and Juda be like all the nations?
BrentonThus saith the Lord; Because Moab has said, Behold, are not the house of Israel and Juda like all the other nations?
GreekΤάδε λέγει Κύριος, ἀνθʼ ὧν εἶπε Μωάβ, ἰδοὺ, οὐχ ὃν τρόπον πάντα τὰ ἔθνη, οἶκος Ἰσραὴλ καὶ Ἰούδα;

ThomsonTherefore, behold, I will loosen the shoulder of Moab from his frontier cities,—that beautiful country, the house of Bethasimoth, at the head of the fountain of the city on the sea shore.
BrentonTherefore, behold, I will weaken the shoulder of Moab from his frontier cities, even the choice land, the house of Bethasimuth above the fountain of the city, by the sea-side.
GreekΔιατοῦτο ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ παραλύω τὸν ὦμον Μωάβ ἀπὸ πόλεων ἀκρωτηρίων αὐτοῦ, ἐκλεκτὴν γῆν, οἶκον Βεθασιμούθ ἐπάνω πηγῆς πόλεως παραθαλασσίας,

ThomsonI have set the children of Kedem over the Ammonites, I have given them to him for an inheritance, that there may be no remembrance of the Ammonites,
BrentonI have given him the children of Kedem in addition to the children of Ammon for an inheritance, that there may be no remembrance of the children of Ammon.

Thomsonand upon Moab I will execute vengeance; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
BrentonAnd I will execute vengeance on Moab; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
GreekΚαὶ εἰς Μωὰβ ποιήσω ἐκδίκησιν, καὶ ἐπιγνώσονται διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος.

ThomsonThus saith the Lord: Because Idumea in executing vengeance on the house of Juda gratified private resentment and executed the sentence with rigour.
BrentonThus saith the Lord; Because of what the Idumeans have done in taking vengeance on the house of Juda, and because they have remembered injuries, and have exacted full recompence;

ThomsonTherefore thus saith the Lord, I will also stretch forth My hand against Idumea, and destroy out of it man and beast and make it a desolation. And they who are driven out of Thaiman shall fall by the sword.
Brentontherefore thus saith the Lord; I will also stretch out my hand upon Idumea, and will utterly destroy out of it man and beast; and will make it desolate; and they that are pursued out of Thæman shall fall by the sword.

ThomsonAnd I will execute vengeance on Idumea by the hand of My people Israel who shall deal with Idumea according to Mine indignation, and according to My wrath; and they shall know My vengeance saith the Lord. For the same cause,
BrentonAnd I will execute my vengeance on Idumea by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall deal in Idumea according to mine anger and according to my wrath, and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord.
GreekΚαὶ δώσω ἐκδίκησίν μου ἐπὶ τὴν Ἰδουμαίαν ἐν χειρὶ λαοῦ μου Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ ποιήσουσιν ἐν τῇ Ἰδουμαίᾳ κατὰ τὴν ὀργήν μου καὶ κατὰ τὸν θυμόν μου, καὶ ἐπιγνώσονται τὴν ἐκδίκησίν μου, λέγει Κύριος.

Thomsonthus saith the Lord: Because the Philistines acted with revenge and with joy of heart heightened the punishment to destroy utterly;
BrentonTherefore thus saith the Lord, Because the Philistines have wrought revengefully, and raised up vengeance rejoicing from their heart to destroy the Israelites to a man;
GreekΔιατοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ἀνθʼ ὧν ἐποίησαν οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι ἐν ἐκδικήσει, καὶ ἐξανέστησαν ἐκδίκησιν ἐπιχαίροντες ἐκ ψυχῆς, τοῦ ἐξαλεῖψαι ἕως ἑνὸς,

Thomsontherefore thus saith the Lord: Behold I will stretch forth My hand against the Philistines, and utterly exterminate the Cretans, and destroy the remnants which inhabit the sea coast,
Brentontherefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will stretch out my hand upon the Philistines, and will utterly destroy the Cretans, and will cut off the remnant that dwell by the sea-coast.
Greekδιατοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐκτείνω τὴν χεῖρά μου ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους, καὶ ἐξολοθρεύσω Κρῆτας, καὶ ἀπολῶ τοὺς καταλοίπους τοὺς κατοικοῦντας τὴν παραλίαν·

Thomsonand inflict on them great punishments; and they shall know that I am the Lord when I execute My vengeance on them.
BrentonAnd I will execute great vengeance upon them; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I have brought my vengeance upon them.
GreekΚαὶ ποιήσω ἐν αὐτοῖς ἐκδικήσεις μεγάλας, καὶ ἐπιγνώσονται διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος, ἐν τῷ δοῦναι τὴν ἐκδίκησίν μου ἐπʼ αὐτούς.
