ThomsonInquire of the Lord concerning us for the king of Babylon is come against us. Will the Lord do according to all His wondrous works that he [the king of Babylon] may depart from us?
BrentonEnquire of the Lord for us; for the king of Babylon has risen up against us; if the Lord will do according to all his wonderful works, and the king shall depart from us.

ThomsonThus saith the Lord: Behold I turn back the weapons of war with which you fight against the Chaldeans who have besieged you without the wall. And I will bring them into this city.
BrentonThus saith the Lord; Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war wherewith ye fight against the Chaldeans that have besieged you from outside the wall, and I will gather them into the midst of this city.

ThomsonAnd I will smite all the inhabitants of this city, both men and beasts with a great pestilence, and they shall die.

ThomsonAnd after that, saith the Lord, I will deliver Sedekias, king of Juda, and his servants and the people left in this city from the pestilence and from the famine and from the sword, into the hands of their enemies who seek their lives, and they shall smite them with the edge of the sword. I will not spare them, nor will I have compassion on them.

GreekΚαὶ μετὰ ταῦτα οὕτως λέγει Κύριος, δώσω τὸν Σεδεκίαν βασιλέα Ἰούδα, καὶ τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὸν λαὸν καταλειφθέντα ἐν τῇ πόλει ταύτῃ ἀπὸ τοῦ θανάτου καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ λιμοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς μαχαίρας, εἰς χεῖρας ἐχθρῶν αὐτῶν, τῶν ζητούντων τὰς ψυχὰς αὐτῶν, καὶ κατακόψουσιν αὐτοὺς ἐν στόματι μαχαίρας· οὐ φείσομαι ἐπʼ αὐτοῖς, καὶ οὐ μὴ οἰκτειρήσω αὐτούς.

ThomsonHe who abideth in this city, shall die by the sword and famine, but he who goeth out to the Chaldeans who have besieged you, he shall live. His life shall be given him for a spoil and he shall live.
BrentonHe that remains in this city shall die by the sword, and by famine: but he that goes forth to advance to the Chaldeans that have besieged you, shall live, and his life shall be to him for a spoil, and he shall live.
GreekὉ καθήμενος ἐν τῇ πόλει ταύτῃ, ἀποθανεῖται ἐν μαχαίρᾳ καὶ ἐν λιμῷ· καὶ ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος προσχωρῆσαι πρὸς τοὺς Χαλδαίους τοὺς συγκεκλεικότας ὑμᾶς, ζήσεται, καὶ ἔσται ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ εἰς σκῦλα, καὶ ζήσεται.

ThomsonO house of David. Thus saith the Lord: Administer judgment in the morning and relieve and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of him who wrongeth him, that My wrath may not be kindled like a fire and blaze so that none can quench it.
BrentonO house of David, thus saith the Lord; Judge judgment in the morning, and act rightly, and rescue the spoiled one from the hand of him that wrongs him, lest mine anger be kindled like fire, and it burn, and there be none to quench it.

ThomsonBehold I am against thee who inhabitest the vale of Sor—that plain—them who say, who can terrify us? or who can come into our habitation?
BrentonBehold, I am against thee that dwellest in the valley of Sor; in the plain country, even against them that say, Who shall alarm us? or who shall enter into our habitation?
GreekἸδοὺ ἐγὼ πρὸς σὲ τὸν κατοικοῦντα τὴν κοιλάδα σὸρ, τὴν πεδεινὴν, τοὺς λέγοντας, τίς πτοήσει ἡμᾶς; ἢ τίς εἰσελεύσεται πρὸς τὸ κατοικητήριον ἡμῶν;

ThomsonAnd I will kindle a fire in its forests and it shall devour all things around it.
