13
Thomsonand when the Israelites became strong, they brought the Chananites into subjection, and did not utterly extirpate them.

14
ThomsonWhen the children of Joseph complained to Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given us but one lot, and one portion, to inherit, seeing I am a numerous people, and God hath blessed me?
BrentonAnd the sons of Joseph answered Joshua, saying, Wherefore hast thou caused us to inherit one inheritance, and one line? whereas I am a great people, and God has blessed me.
15
ThomsonJoshua said to them, If thou art a numerous people, go up into the forest and clear it for thyself, if the mountain Ephraim be too narrow for thee.
BrentonAnd Joshua said to them, If thou be a great people, go up to the forest, and clear the land for thyself, if mount Ephraim be too little for thee.

17
ThomsonBut Joshua said to the children of Joseph, If thou art a numerous people, and hast great power, thou wilt not have one lot only,
BrentonAnd Joshua said to the sons of Joseph, If thou art a great people, and hast great strength, thou shalt not have only one inheritance.

Thomsonfor the forest will be thine. Though it is a forest thou canst clear it, and it shall be thine when thou hast rooted out the Chananites. For though they have choice horses, thou shalt excel them in strength.
BrentonFor thou shalt have the wood, for there is a wood, and thou shalt clear it, and the land shall be thine; even when thou shalt have utterly destroyed the Chananite, for he has chosen cavalry; yet thou art stronger than he.
