ThomsonBUT it shall come to pass in the last of these days, that the mountain of the Lord shall be conspicuous: it shall be established on the tops of the mountains, and raised high above the hills; and peoples shall hasten to it.

ThomsonAnd many nations shall come—they will say, Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; that they may point out to us his ways, and that we may walk in his paths. For out of Sion shall go forth a law; and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

ThomsonAnd He will judge among many peoples, and rebuke nations of extensive power. And they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall no more lift up a sword against nation; nor shall they any more learn to fight.

ThomsonBut they shall rest every man under his own vine, and every man under his own fig tree; and there shall be none to make them afraid. Because the mouth of the Lord Almighty hath spoken these things—
BrentonAnd every one shall rest under his vine, and every one under his fig-tree; and there shall be none to alarm them: for the mouth of the Lord Almighty has spoken these words.

Thomsonbecause all the people will walk each one in his own way, let us therefore walk in the name of the Lord our God until that age and beyond it.
BrentonFor all other nations shall walk every one in his own way, but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God for ever and ever.

Thomsonand I will make the bruised a remnant, and her who was put away, a mighty nation. And the Lord will reign over them on mount Sion henceforth and forever.
BrentonAnd I will make her that was bruised a remnant, and her that was rejected a mighty nation: and the Lord shall reign over them in mount Sion from henceforth, even for ever.

ThomsonAnd as for thee, thou squalid tower of a flock, thou daughter of Sion; to thee He will come, when the chiefdom, the first royal government shall have come from Babylon for the daughter of Jerusalem.
BrentonAnd thou, dark tower of the flock, daughter of Sion, on thee the dominion shall come and enter in, even the first kingdom from Babylon to the daughter of Jerusalem.
GreekΚαὶ σὺ πύργος ποιμνίου αὐχμώδης, θυγάτηρ Σιὼν, ἐπὶ σὲ ἥξει, καὶ εἰσελεύσεται ἡ ἀρχὴ, ἡ πρώτη βασιλεία ἐκ Βαβυλῶνος τῇ θυγατρὶ Ἱερουσαλήμ.

ThomsonNow therefore why hast thou known evils? Was there no king for thee? Or was thy counsel destroyed, that pangs of a woman in travail have seized thee?
BrentonAnd now, why hast thou known calamities? was there not a king to thee? or has thy counsel perished that pangs as of a woman in travail have seized upon thee?
GreekΚαὶ νῦν ἱνατί ἔγνως κακά; μὴ βασιλεὺς οὐκ ἦν σοι; ἢ ἡ βουλή σου ἀπώλετο, ὅτι κατεκράτησάν σου ὠδῖνες ὡς τικτούσης;

ThomsonBe in pangs, but take courage and draw near to delivery, O daughter of Sion. For thou art now to go from a city and to make thy abode in a field, and go even to Babylon. Thence He will deliver thee; yes, thence the Lord thy God will redeem thee out of the hands of thine enemies.
BrentonBe in pain, and strengthen thyself, and draw near, O daughter of Sion, as a woman in travail: for now thou shalt go forth out of the city, and shalt lodge in the plain, and shalt reach even to Babylon: thence shall the Lord thy God deliver thee, and thence shall he redeem thee out of the hand of thine enemies.

ThomsonNow indeed many nations are assembled against thee, saying, Let us rejoice exceedingly and let our eyes look upon Sion.
BrentonAnd now have many nations gathered against thee, saying, We will rejoice, and our eyes shall look upon Sion.
GreekΚαὶ νῦν ἐπισυνήχθησαν ἐπὶ σὲ ἔθνη πολλὰ, λέγοντες, ἐπιχαρούμεθα, καὶ ἐπόψονται ἐπὶ Σιὼν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ ἡμῶν.

ThomsonBut they did not know the determination of the Lord nor understand His counsel. Because He hath gathered them as sheaves for a threshing floor,
BrentonBut they know not the thought of the Lord, and have not understood his counsel: for he has gathered them as sheaves of the floor.

Thomsonarise, daughter of Sion and tread them out. Because I will make thy horns iron and thy hoofs I will make brass; therefore thou shalt break many peoples in pieces, and devote the multitude of them to the Lord, and their substance to the Lord of the whole earth.
BrentonArise, and thresh them, O daughter of Sion: for I will make thine horns iron, and I will make thine hoofs brass: and thou shalt utterly destroy many nations, and shalt consecrate their abundance to the Lord, and their strength to the Lord of all the earth.
GreekἈνάστηθι, καὶ ἀλόα αὐτοὺς θυγάτηρ Σιὼν, ὅτι τὰ κέρατά σου θήσομαι σιδηρᾶ, καὶ τὰς ὁπλάς σου θήσομαι χαλκᾶς· καὶ κατατήξεις λαοὺς πολλοὺς, καὶ ἀναθήσεις τῷ Κυρίῳ τὸ πλῆθος αὐτῶν, καὶ τὴν ἰσχὺν αὐτῶν τῷ Κυρίῳ πάσης τῆς γῆς.

BrentonNow shall the daughter of Sion be completely hedged in: he has laid siege against us: they shall smite the tribes of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
