ThomsonBLESS the Lord O my soul. O Lord my God, Thou art very great. Thou hast robed Thyself with honour and majesty;
BrentonAlleluia. Give thanks to the Lord, and call upon his name; declare his works among the heathen.
GreekἈλληλούϊα. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ, καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ· ἀπαγγείλατε ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ.

Thomsonclothing Thyself with light as with a mantle; stretching out the heaven as a tent.
BrentonSing to him, yea, sing praises to him: tell forth all his wonderful works.
GreekΑσατε αὐτῷ καὶ ψάλατε αὐτῷ. διηγήσασθε πάντα τὰ θαυμάσια αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonThou art He Who covereth His chambers with waters who maketh clouds His chariot—Who walketh on the wings of winds—
BrentonGlory in his holy name: let the heart of them that seek the Lord rejoice.

ThomsonWho maketh winds His messengers, and flaming fire His ministers—
BrentonSeek ye the Lord, and be strengthened; seek his face continually.

ThomsonWho founded the earth on its firm basis, that it may not be moved forever.
BrentonRemember his wonderful works that he has done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;

ThomsonIs the abyss like a garment to be its covering—are waters to stand above the mountains?
Brentonye seed of Abraam, his servants, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
GreekΣπέρμα Ἁβραὰμ δοῦλοι αὐτοῦ, υἱοὶ Ἰακὼβ ἐκλεκτοὶ αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonAt Thy rebuke they shall flee—at the peal of Thy thunder they will tremble.
BrentonHe is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
GreekΑὐτὸς Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ τὰ κρίματα αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonThey ascend mountains, they go down valleys; to the place which Thou hast founded for them.
BrentonHe has remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded for a thousand generations:

ThomsonThou has set a bound which they shall not pass; nor shall they return to cover the earth.
Brentonwhich he established as a covenant to Abraam, and he remembered his oath to Isaac.

ThomsonThou art He Who sendeth forth springs in valleys. Waters shall flow down between the mountains;
BrentonAnd he established it to Jacob for an ordinance, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant;
GreekΚαὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὴν τῷ Ἰακὼβ εἰς πρόσταγμα, καὶ τῷ Ἰσραὴλ εἰς διαθήκην αἰώνιον,

Thomsonand give drink to all the beasts of the field. Wild asses will expect them to quench their thirst.
Brentonsaying, To thee will I give the land of Chanaan, the line of your inheritance:

ThomsonBy them the birds of the air will abide: from among the rocks they will utter a sound.
Brentonwhen they were few in number, very few, and sojourners in it.

ThomsonThou art He Who watereth mountains from His chambers. With the fruit of Thy works the earth will be satisfied.
BrentonAnd they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people.

ThomsonThou art He Who causeth grass to grow for cattle; even verdant grass for the service of man. That he may bring food out of the earth:
BrentonHe suffered no man to wrong them; and he rebuked kings for their sakes:
Greekοὐκ ἀφῆκεν ἄνθρωπον ἀδικῆσαι αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἤλεγξεν ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν βασιλεῖς·

Thomsonwine cheereth the heart of man: that he might exhilarate his countenance with oil; the heart of man is strengthened with bread.
Brentonsaying, Touch not my anointed ones; and do my prophets no harm.
GreekΜὴ ἅψησθε τῶν χριστῶν μου, καὶ ἐν τοῖς προφήταις μου μὴ πονηρεύεσθε.

ThomsonThe trees of the plain shall be fully satisfied—the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted.
BrentonMoreover he called for a famine upon the land; he broke the whole support of bread.
GreekΚαὶ ἐκάλεσε λιμὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, πᾶν στήριγμα ἄρτου συνέτριψεν.

ThomsonThere the birds will build their nests. The family of the stork account them their own.
BrentonHe sent a man before them; Joseph was sold for a slave.

ThomsonThe lofty mountains are for the hinds: a rock is the refuge of the rabbit.
BrentonThey hurt his feet with fetters; his soul passed into iron,

ThomsonHe hath appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his time for going down.
Brentonuntil the time that his cause came on; the word of the Lord tried him as fire.

ThomsonThou hast stationed darkness and there was night: in it all the beasts of the forest will come forth—
BrentonThe king sent and loosed him; even the prince of the people, and let him go free.

ThomsonLions roaring for prey, seeking their food from God.
BrentonHe made him lord over his house, and ruler of all his substance;

ThomsonWhen the sun is risen, they will assemble and lay themselves down in their dens;
Brentonto chastise his rulers at his pleasure, and to teach his elders wisdom.

ThomsonMan will go forth to his labour and continue at it till evening.
BrentonIsrael also came into Egypt, and Jacob sojourned in the land of Cham.

ThomsonHow manifold are Thy works, O Lord, with wisdom Thou hast done them all. The earth is filled with Thy creatures;
BrentonAnd he increased his people greatly, and made them stronger than their enemies.
GreekΚαὶ ηὔξησε τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ σφόδρα, καὶ ἐκραταίωσεν αὐτὸν ὑπὲρ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonSo is the great and spacious sea: in this are moving things innumerable—living creatures small and great.
BrentonAnd he turned their heart to hate his people, to deal craftily with his servants.
GreekΚαὶ μετέστρεψε τὴν καρδίαν αὐτῶν τοῦ μισῆσαι τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ, τοῦ δολιοῦσθαι ἐν τοῖς δούλοις αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonThere ships sail: there is that dragon, which Thou hast formed to sport therein.
BrentonHe sent forth Moses his servant, and Aaron whom he had chosen.

ThomsonAll wait on Thee to give them food in due season.
BrentonHe established among them his signs, and his wonders in the land of Cham.

ThomsonWhen Thou givest them, they gather; by opening Thy hand all are bountifully supplied.
BrentonHe sent forth darkness, and made it dark; yet they rebelled against his words.
GreekἘξαπέστειλε σκότος καὶ ἐσκότασε, καὶ παρεπίκραναν τοὺς λόγους αὐτοῦ·

ThomsonBut when Thou deniest, they are troubled. Withdraw their breath, they die and return to their dust:
BrentonHe turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.
GreekΜετέστρεψε τὰ ὕδατα αὐτῶν εἰς αἷμα, καὶ ἀπέκτεινε τοὺς ἰχθύας αὐτῶν.

Thomsonsend forth Thy breath and they are created: Thou indeed canst renew the face of the earth.
BrentonTheir land produced frogs abundantly, in the chambers of their kings.

ThomsonLet the glory of the Lord endure forever; let the Lord rejoice over His works.
BrentonHe spoke, and the dog-fly came, and lice in all their coasts.

ThomsonWhen He looketh at the earth, He causeth it to tremble; when He toucheth the mountains, they smoke.
BrentonHe turned their rain into hail, and sent flaming fire in their land.
GreekἜθετο τὰς βροχὰς αὐτῶν χάλαζαν, πῦρ καταφλέγον ἐν τῇ γῇ αὐτῶν.

ThomsonI will sing to the Lord as long as I live, I will praise my God while I have a being.
BrentonAnd he smote their vines and their fig-trees; and broke every tree of their coast.
GreekΚαὶ ἐπάταξε τὰς ἀμπέλους αὐτῶν καὶ τὰς συκὰς αὐτῶν, καὶ συνέτριψε πᾶν ξύλον ὁρίου αὐτῶν.

ThomsonLet my meditation be acceptable to Him, and I will rejoice in the Lord.
BrentonHe spoke, and the locust came, and caterpillars innumerable,

ThomsonLet sinners be consumed from the earth, and the wicked so as to be no more; O my soul, bless Thou the Lord.
Brentonand devoured all the grass in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.
