ThomsonAT the departure of Israel from Egypt; of the house of Jacob from a barbarous people;
BrentonAlleluia. I am well pleased, because the Lord will hearken to the voice of my supplication.
GreekἈλληλούϊα. Ἠγαπήσα, ὅτι εἰσακούσεται Κύριος τῆς φωνῆς τῆς δεήσεώς μου·

ThomsonJudea became his sanctuary; Israel his dominion.
BrentonBecause he has inclined his ear to me, therefore will I call upon him while I live.
GreekὍτι ἔκλινε τὸ οὖς αὐτοῦ ἐμοὶ, καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις μου ἐπικαλέσομαι.

ThomsonThe sea saw and fled: Jordan was turned back.
BrentonThe pangs of death compassed me; the dangers of hell found me: I found affliction and sorrow.

BrentonThen I called on the name of the Lord: O Lord, deliver my soul.

ThomsonWhat ailed thee, sea, that thou fleddest? And thee, Jordan, that thou turnedst back?
BrentonThe Lord is merciful and righteous; yea, our God has pity.
GreekἘλεήμων ὁ Κύριος καὶ δίκαιος, καὶ ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν ἐλεεῖ.

ThomsonYou, mountains, that you skipped like rams? And you, hills, like lambs of the flock?
BrentonThe Lord preserves the simple: I was brought low, and he delivered me.
GreekΦυλάσσων τὰ νήπια ὁ Κύριος, ἐταπεινώθην καὶ ἔσωσέ με.

BrentonReturn to thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with thee.
