ThomsonO PRAISE the Lord, ye His servants! praise the name of the Lord.
BrentonAlleluia. At the going forth of Israel from Egypt, of the house of Jacob from a barbarous people,
GreekἈλληλούϊα. Ἐν ἐξόδῳ Ἰσραὴλ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου, οἴκου Ἰακὼβ ἐκ λαοῦ βαρβάρου,

ThomsonLet the name of the Lord be blessed; henceforth and forever.
BrentonJudea became his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.
Greekἐγενήθη Ἰουδαία ἁγίασμα αὐτοῦ, Ἰσραὴλ ἐξουσία αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonFrom the rising of the sun to its going down; let the name of the Lord be praised.
BrentonThe sea saw and fled: Jordan was turned back.

ThomsonThe Lord is high over all the nations: His glory is above the heavens.

GreekΤὰ ὄρη ἐσκίρτησαν ὡσεὶ κριοὶ, καὶ οἱ βουνοὶ ὡς ἀρνία προβάτων.

ThomsonWho is like the Lord our God who dwelleth on high,
BrentonWhat ailed thee, O sea, that thou fleddest? and thou Jordan, that thou wast turned back?
GreekΤί σοι ἐστὶ θάλασσα ὅτι ἔφυγες; καὶ σὺ Ἰορδάνη ὅτι ἐστράφης εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω;

Thomsonand superintendeth the things below Him in heaven and on the earth?
BrentonYe mountains, that ye skipped like rams, and ye hills, like lambs?
GreekΤὰ ὄρη ὅτι ἐσκίρτησατε ὡσεὶ κριοί; καὶ οἱ βουνοὶ ὡς ἀρνία προβάτων;

ThomsonWho raiseth the distressed from the ground, and lifteth the needy from a dunghill:
BrentonThe earth trembled at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

Thomsonto seat him with princes; with the chiefs of his people.
Brentonwho turned the rock into pools of water, and the flint into fountains of water.

BrentonNot to us, O Lord, not to us, but to thy name give glory, because of thy mercy and thy truth;
GreekΜὴ ἡμῖν Κύριε, μὴ ἡμῖν, ἀλλʼ ἢ τῷ ὀνόματί σου δὸς δόξαν, ἐπὶ τῷ ἐλέει σου καὶ τῇ ἀληθείᾳ σου·

Brentonlest at any time the nations should say, Where is their God?

BrentonBut our God has done in heaven and on earth, whatsoever he has pleased.

BrentonThe idols of the nations are silver and gold, the works of men's hands.

BrentonThey have a mouth, but they cannot speak; they have eyes, but they cannot see:

Brentonthey have ears, but they cannot hear; they have noses, but they cannot smell;
GreekὮτα ἔχουσι καὶ οὐκ ἀκούσονται, ῥῖνας ἔχουσι καὶ οὐκ ὀσφρανθήσονται·

Brentonthey have hands, but they cannot handle; they have feet, but they cannot walk: they cannot speak through their throat.
GreekΧεῖρας ἔχουσι καὶ οὐ ψηλαφήσουσι, πόδας ἔχουσι καὶ οὐ περιπατήσουσιν, οὐ φωνήσουσιν ἐν τῷ λάρυγγι αὐτῶν.

BrentonThe house of Aaron trusts in the Lord: he is their helper and defender.

BrentonThey that fear the Lord trust in the Lord: he is their helper and defender.

BrentonThe Lord has remembered us, and blessed us: he has blessed the house of Israel, he has blessed the house of Aaron.

BrentonThe heaven of heavens belongs to the Lord: but he has given the earth to the sons of men.
GreekὉ οὐρανὸς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ τῷ Κυρίῳ, τὴν δὲ γῆν ἔδωκε τοῖς υἱοῖς τῶν ἀνθρώπων.

BrentonThe dead shall not praise thee, O Lord, nor any that go down to Hades.
GreekΟὐχ οἱ νεκροὶ αἰνέσουσί σε Κύριε, οὐδὲ πάντες οἱ καταβαίνοντες εἰς ᾅδου·

BrentonBut we, the living, will bless the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.
