ThomsonMANY a time have they warred against me from my youth, let Israel now say—
BrentonA Song of Degrees. Out of the depths have I cried to thee, O Lord.
GreekὨδὴ τῶν ἀναβαθμῶν. Ἐκ βαθέων ἐκέκραξά σοι Κύριε.

ThomsonMany a time they warred against me from my youth; they did not however prevail over me.
BrentonO Lord, hearken to my voice; let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.
GreekΚύριε εἰσάκουσον τῆς φωνῆς μου· γενηθήτω τὰ ὦτά σου προσέχοντα εἰς τὴν φωνὴν τῆς δεήσεώς μου.

ThomsonUpon my back the wicked hammered, they prolonged their iniquity:
BrentonIf thou, O Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
GreekἘὰν ἀνομίας παρατηρήσῃς Κύριε, Κύριε, τίς ὑποστήσεται;

Thomsonthe righteous Lord hath broken the necks of the wicked.
BrentonFor with thee is forgiveness: for thy name's sake
GreekὍτι παρὰ σοὶ ὁ ἱλασμός ἐστιν· ἕνεκεν τοῦ ὀνόματός σου

ThomsonLet all who hate Sion be confounded and turned back.
Brentonhave I waited for thee, O Lord, my soul has waited for thy word.
Greekὑπέμεινά σε Κύριε, ὑπέμεινεν ἡ ψυχή μου εἰς τὸν λόγον σου,

ThomsonLet them be like a blade on the house tops, which withereth before it is pulled up,
BrentonMy soul has hoped in the Lord; from the morning watch till night.
Greekἤλπισεν ἡ ψυχή μου ἐπὶ τὸν Κύριον· ἀπὸ φυλακῆς πρωΐας μέχρι νυκτός,

Thomsonwith which the reaper hath not filled his hand, nor he who gathereth the sheaves, his bosom;
BrentonLet Israel hope in the Lord: for with the Lord is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
GreekἘλπισάτω Ἰσραὴλ ἐπὶ τὸν Κύριον· ὅτι παρὰ τῷ Κυρίῳ τὸ ἔλεος, καὶ πολλὴ παρ αὐτῷ λύτρωσις.

Thomsonso that they who passed by did not say, The blessing of the Lord is upon you. We have blessed you in the name of the Lord.
BrentonAnd he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
GreekΚαὶ αὐτὸς λυτρώσεται τὸν Ἰσραὴλ ἐκ πασῶν τῶν ἀνομιῶν αὐτοῦ.
