1
ThomsonTHE Lord is my Light and my Saviour. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the Defender of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?
BrentonA Psalm of David. To thee, O Lord, have I cried; my God, be not silent toward me: lest thou be silent toward me, and so I should be likened to them that go down to the pit.
2
ThomsonWhen evil doers approached me, to devour my flesh; they, who afflicted me, even mine enemies fainted and fell.
BrentonHearken to the voice of my supplication, when I pray to thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy temple.
3
ThomsonThough a host be drawn up against me, my heart will not be dismayed; though war rise up against me, still I exercise hope.
BrentonDraw not away my soul with sinners, and destroy me not with the workers of iniquity, who speak peace with their neighbours, but evils are in their hearts.
4
ThomsonOne favour I have asked of the Lord; and this I will earnestly seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life—that I may contemplate the delight of the Lord and visit His temple.
BrentonGive them according to their works, and according to the wickedness of their devices: give them according to the works of their hands; render their recompence unto them.
5
ThomsonBecause in His pavilion He hid me, in the day of my calamities—in the secret of His tabernacle He covered me; He set me upon a rock;
BrentonBecause they have not attended to the works of the Lord, even to the works of his hands, thou shalt pull them down, and shalt not build them up.
6
Thomsonand now, behold! He hath raised up my head against mine enemies: I have gone round and offered at His tent a sacrifice of thanksgiving: with music vocal and instrumental I will praise the Lord.
BrentonBlessed be the Lord, for he has hearkened to the voice of my petition.
7
ThomsonHear, O Lord, my voice when I cry; have mercy on me and hearken to me.
BrentonThe Lord is my helper and my defender; my heart has hoped in him, and I am helped: my flesh has revived, and willingly will I give praise to him.
8
ThomsonTo Thee my heart said, I have sought Thy face; Thy face, O Lord, I will seek.
BrentonThe Lord is the strength of his people, and the saving defender of his anointed.
9
ThomsonTurn not away Thy face from me; withdraw not in anger from Thy servant. Be Thou my helper: leave me not, nor forsake me, O God, my saviour.
BrentonSave thy people, and bless thine inheritance: and take care of them, and lift them up for ever.
