Thomson 1808
Brenton 1851
Greek · Brenton
1
ThomsonFRET not because of evil doers: nor envy them who commit iniquity.
BrentonA Psalm of David for remembrance concerning the Sabbath-day.
2
ThomsonFor like grass, they shall quickly wither: and like the tender herb, they shall quickly fall.
BrentonO Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath, neither chasten me in thine anger.
3
ThomsonTrust in the Lord and exercise kindness; dwell in the land and thou shalt be fed with the riches thereof.
BrentonFor thy weapons are fixed in me, and thou hast pressed thy hand heavily upon me.
4
ThomsonIndulge thyself with delight in the Lord, and He will give thee the desires of thy heart.
BrentonFor there is no health in my flesh because of thine anger; there is no peace to my bones because of my sins.
5
ThomsonLay open thy way before the Lord, and trust in Him; and he will accomplish—
BrentonFor my transgressions have gone over mine head: they have pressed heavily upon me like a weighty burden.
6
ThomsonHe will indeed bring forth thy righteousness like light, and thy judgment, as the noon day.
BrentonMy bruises have become noisome and corrupt, because of my foolishness.
7
ThomsonSubmit thyself to the Lord, and supplicate Him; fret not at the man who prospereth in his way—at the man who committeth iniquity.
BrentonI have been wretched and bowed down continually: I went with a mourning countenance all the day.
8
ThomsonCease from anger and forsake wrath—be not fretted so as to do evil;
BrentonFor my soul is filled with mockings; and there is no health in my flesh.
9
Thomsonfor they who do evil shall be cut off: but they who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.
BrentonI have been afflicted and brought down exceedingly: I have roared for the groaning of my heart.
10
ThomsonYet a little while, and the sinner shall be no more; though thou mayst seek his place, thou shalt not find it.
BrentonBut all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hidden from thee.
11
ThomsonBut the meek shall inherit the land, and delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
BrentonMy heart is troubled, my strength has failed me; and the light of mine eyes is not with me.
12
ThomsonThe sinner may watch the righteous, and gnash his teeth at him;
BrentonMy friends and my neighbours drew near before me, and stood still; and my nearest of kin stood afar off.
13
Thomsonbut the Lord will laugh him to scorn, for He foreseeth that his day will come.
BrentonWhile they pressed hard upon me that sought my soul: and they that sought my hurt spoke vanities, and devised deceits all the day.
14
ThomsonThe sinners drew the sword—they bent their bow, to overthrow the afflicted and needy—to slay the upright in heart.
BrentonBut I, as a deaf man, heard not; and was as a dumb man not opening his mouth.
15
ThomsonLet their sword pierce their own heart; and their bows be broken to shivers.
BrentonAnd I was as a man that hears not, and who has no reproofs in his mouth.
16
ThomsonBetter is the little which a righteous man hath, than the abundant wealth of sinners.
BrentonFor I hoped in thee, O Lord: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
17
ThomsonFor the arms of sinners shall be broken; but the Lord supporteth the righteous.
BrentonFor I said, Lest mine enemies rejoice against me: for when my feet were moved, they spoke boastingly against me.
18
ThomsonThe Lord knoweth the ways of the spotless; and their inheritance shall last forever.
BrentonFor I am ready for plagues, and my grief is continually before me.
19
ThomsonIn time of troubles they shall not be shamed, and in days of famine they shall be plentifully fed.
BrentonFor I will declare mine iniquity, and be distressed for my sin.
20
ThomsonBecause the sinners shall perish. Therefore when the enemies of the Lord were exalted and glorified—they were flitting away like smoke, and vanishing.
BrentonBut mine enemies live, and are mightier than I: and they that hate me unjustly are multiplied.
21
ThomsonThe sinner borroweth and will not repay; but the righteous sheweth mercy and giveth.
BrentonThey that reward evil for good slandered me; because I followed righteousness.
22
ThomsonHence they who bless Him shall inherit the land; but they who curse Him shall be rooted out.
BrentonForsake me not, O Lord my God: depart not from me.
23
ThomsonThe steps of a man will be directed by the Lord, when He taketh delight in his way.
BrentonDraw nigh to my help, O Lord of my salvation.
