ThomsonMY heart hath indited a good word, I recite my performances to the king. My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
BrentonFor the end, for the sons of Core; a Psalm concerning secret things.
GreekΕἰς τὸ τέλος, ὑπὲρ τῶν υἱῶν Κορὲ, ὑπὲρ τῶν κρυφίων ψαλμός.

ThomsonThou art fairer than the sons of men: grace is poured out by thy lips; for this cause God hath blessed thee forever.
BrentonGod is our refuge and strength, a help in the afflictions that have come heavily upon us.
GreekὉ Θεὸς ἡμῶν καταφυγὴ καὶ δύναμις, βοηθὸς ἐν θλίψεσι ταῖς εὑρούσαις ἡμᾶς σφόδρα.

ThomsonGird thy sword on thy thigh, O thou mighty! To thy comeliness and thy beauty give energy,
BrentonTherefore will we not fear when the earth is troubled, and the mountains are removed into the depths of the seas.
GreekΔιὰ τοῦτο οὐ φοβηθησόμεθα ἐν τῷ ταράσσεσθαι τὴν γῆν, καὶ μετατίθεσθαι ὄρη ἐν καρδίαις θαλασσῶν.

Thomsonand prosper and reign for truth, meekness, and justice’s sake; and let thine own right hand marvellously conduct thee.
BrentonTheir waters have roared and been troubled, the mountains have been troubled by his might. Pause.
GreekἬχησαν καὶ ἐταράχθησαν τὰ ὕδατα αὐτῶν, ἐταράχθησαν τὰ ὄρη ἐν τῇ κραταιότητι αὐτοῦ. διάψαλμα.

ThomsonThine arrows are sharpened, O mighty one, nations shall fall under thee; they are in the heart of the king’s enemies.
BrentonThe flowings of the river gladden the city of God: the Most High has sanctified his tabernacle.
GreekΤοῦ ποταμοῦ τὰ ὁρμήματα εὐφραίνουσι τὴν πόλιν τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἡγίασε τὸ σκήνωμα αὐτοῦ ὁ ὕψιστος.

ThomsonThy throne, O God, is forever and ever; the sceptre of Thy kingdom is a sceptre of rectitude.
BrentonGod is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her with his countenance.
GreekὉ Θεὸς ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῆς οὐ σαλευθήσεται, βοηθήσει αὐτῇ ὁ Θεὸς τῷ προσώπῳ.

ThomsonThou didst love righteousness and hate iniquity, therefore God, Thy God, anointed thee with the oil of joy above thy fellows.
BrentonThe nations were troubled, the kingdoms tottered: he uttered his voice, the earth shook.
GreekἘταράχθησαν ἔθνη, ἔκλιναν βασιλεῖαι, ἔδωκε φωνὴν αὐτοῦ, ἐσαλεύθη ἡ γῆ.

ThomsonThere is myrrh and stacte and cassia for thy garments—for the ivory rooms of state from which kings’ daughters gladdened thee.
BrentonThe Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our helper. Pause.
GreekΚύριος τῶν δυνάμεων μεθʼ ἡμῶν, ἀντιλήπτωρ ἡμῶν ὁ Θεὸς Ἰακώβ. διάψαλμα.

ThomsonIn honour of thee the queen stood on thy right hand, arrayed in robes of gold and embroidery.
BrentonCome, and behold the works of the Lord, what wonders he has achieved on the earth.
GreekΔεῦτε καὶ ἴδετε τὰ ἔργα τοῦ Κυρίου, ἃ ἔθετο τέρατα ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς·

ThomsonHear, O daughter, and behold, and incline thine ear, and forget thy people and thy father’s house.
BrentonPutting an end to wars as for the ends of the earth; he will crush the bow, and break in pieces the weapon, and burn the bucklers with fire.
Greekἀνταναιρῶν πολέμους μέχρι τῶν περάτων τῆς γῆς, τόξον συντρίψει, καὶ συγκλάσει ὅπλον, καὶ θυρεοὺς κατακαύσει ἐν πυρί.

ThomsonBecause the king is enamoured of thy beauty—because he is thy lord;
BrentonBe still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
GreekΣχολάσατε καὶ γνῶτε, ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ Θεὸς, ὑψωθήσομαι ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, ὑψωθήσομαι ἐν τῇ γῇ·

Thomsonwhen the daughters of Tyre bow down to him with gifts, the richest people of the land will supplicate thy favour.
