2
ThomsonDeliver me from them who work iniquity; and save me from bloodthirsty men.

3
ThomsonFor behold they have hunted my life: the mighty are set against me: though there is no transgression—no sin, O Lord, in me.
BrentonO God, thou hast rejected and destroyed us; thou hast been angry, yet hast pitied us.
4
ThomsonWithout transgression I ran and kept a straight course; awake to meet me and behold.
BrentonThou hast shaken the earth, and troubled it; heal its breaches, for it has been shaken.
5
ThomsonDo thou, O Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel! attend to visit all the nations: shew no mercy to any workers of iniquity.
BrentonThou hast shewn thy people hard things: thou hast made us drink the wine of astonishment.
6
ThomsonThey are to return at evening; and suffer hunger like a dog, and go round the city.
BrentonThou hast given a token to them that fear thee, that they might flee from the bow. Pause.
7
ThomsonBehold they are to speak oracularly with their mouth; and have a sword in their lips. For, [they say], Who heard?
BrentonThat thy beloved ones may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.
8
ThomsonBut Thou, O Lord, wilt laugh them to scorn. Thou canst set at nought all the nations.
BrentonGod has spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, and divide Sicima, and measure out the valley of tents.
9
ThomsonMy strength is with Thee: I will keep watch: for Thou, O God, art my supporter.
BrentonGalaad is mine, and Manasse is mine; and Ephraim is the strength of my head;
10
ThomsonMy God will cause His mercy to go before me: my God will display it to me among mine enemies.
BrentonJudas is my king; Moab is the caldron of my hope; over Idumea will I stretch out my shoe; the Philistines have been subjected to me.
11
ThomsonSlay them not. Perhaps they may have forgotten Thy law. Scatter them with Thy power; and bring them back, O Lord, my defender.
BrentonWho will lead me into the fortified city? who will guide me as far as Idumea?
GreekΤίς ἀπάξει με εἰς πόλιν περιοχῆς; τίς ὁδηγήσει με ἕως τῆς Ἰδουμαίας;
12
ThomsonLet them be but arrested in their pride; the destructions attendant on their oath and falsehood, will shew the sin of their mouth, the word of their lips.
BrentonWilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our forces?
GreekΟὐχὶ σὺ ὁ Θεὸς, ὁ ἀπωσάμενος ἡμᾶς; καὶ οὐκ ἐξελεύσῃ, ὁ Θεὸς ἐν ταῖς δυνάμεσιν ἡμῶν;
13
ThomsonUnder destructive wrath they cannot subsist. Let them know that the God of Jacob ruleth over the ends of the earth.
BrentonGive us help from trouble: for vain is the deliverance of man.
