ThomsonGOD standeth in the assembly of gods and in the midst He judgeth gods.

GreekὨδὴ ψαλμοῦ τῷ Ἀσάφ.

Thomson(J) How long will you judge unjustly; and respect the persons of sinners?
BrentonO God, who shall be compared to thee? be not silent, neither be still, O God.
GreekὉ Θεὸς, τίς ὁμοιωθήσεταί σοι; μὴ σιγήσῃς, μηδὲ καταπραΰνῃς ὁ Θεός.

ThomsonDo justice to the fatherless and the afflicted; Justify the lowly and the needy.
BrentonFor behold, thine enemies have made a noise; and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
GreekὍτι ἰδοὺ οἱ ἐχθροί σου ἤχησαν· καὶ οἱ μισοῦντές σε ᾖραν κεφαλήν.

ThomsonRescue the needy and deliver the afflicted out of the sinner’s hand.
BrentonAgainst thy people they have craftily imagined a device, and have taken counsel against thy saints.
GreekἘπὶ τὸν λαόν σου κατεπανουργεύσαντο γνώμην, καὶ ἐβουλεύσαντο κατὰ τῶν ἁγίων σου.

ThomsonThey did not know; nor did they understand. They walked on in darkness. All the foundations of the land shall be shaken.
BrentonThey have said, Come, and let us utterly destroy them out of the nation; and let the name of Israel be remembered no more at all.
GreekΕἶπαν, δεῦτε καὶ ἐξολοθρεύσωμεν αὐτοὺς ἐξ ἔθνους, καὶ οὐ μὴ μνησθῇ τὸ ὄνομα Ἰσραὴλ ἔτι.

ThomsonI said you are gods; and all sons of the Most High:
BrentonFor they have taken counsel together with one consent: they have made a confederacy against thee;
GreekὍτι ἐβουλεύσαντο ἐν ὁμονοίᾳ ἐπιτοαυτὸ, κατὰ σοῦ διαθήκην διέθεντο·

Thomsonbut you shall die like men; and fall like one of the chiefs.
Brentoneven the tents of the Idumeans, and the Ismaelites; Moab, and the Agarenes;

Thomson(p) Arise, O God, judge the land Thyself: for Thou shalt inherit all the nations.
BrentonGebal, and Ammon, and Amalec; the Philistines also, with them that dwell at Tyre.

BrentonYea, Assur too is come with them: they have become a help to the children of Lot. Pause.
GreekΚαὶ γὰρ καὶ Ἀσσοὺρ συμπαρεγένετο μετʼ αὐτῶν, ἐγενήθησαν εἰς ἀντίληψιν τοῖς υἱοῖς Λώτ· διάψαλμα.

Brentonwho said, Let us take to ourselves the altar of God as an inheritance.

BrentonO my God, make them as a wheel; as stubble before the face of the wind.

BrentonAs fire which shall burn up a wood, as the flame may consume the mountains;
GreekὩσεὶ πῦρ ὃ διαφλέξει δρυμὸν, ὡσεὶ φλὸξ κατακαύσαι ὄρη·

Brentonso shalt thou persecute them with thy tempest, and trouble them in thine anger.
GreekΟὕτως καταδιώξεις αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ καταιγίδι σου, καὶ ἐν τῇ ὀργῇ σου ταράξεις αὐτούς.

BrentonFill their faces with dishonour; so shall they seek thy name, O Lord.
GreekΠλήρωσον τὰ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν ἀτιμίας, καὶ ζητήσουσι τὸ ὄνομά σου Κύριε.

BrentonLet them be ashamed and troubled for evermore; yea, let them be confounded and destroyed.
GreekΑἰσχυνθήτωσαν καὶ ταραχθήτωσαν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ αἰῶνος, καὶ ἐντραπήτωσαν καὶ ἀπολέσθωσαν.

BrentonAnd let them know that thy name is Lord; that thou alone art Most High over all the earth.
