ThomsonTHE Lord is a God of vengeance, the God of vengeance hath given solemn warning.
BrentonThe praise of a Song by David. Come, let us exult in the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to God our Saviour.
GreekΑἶνος ᾠδῆς τῷ Δαυίδ. Δεῦτε ἀγαλλιασώμεθα τῷ Κυρίῳ, ἀλαλάξωμεν τῷ Θεῷ τῷ σωτῆρι ἡμῶν.

ThomsonExalt Thyself, O thou judge of the earth; render a retribution to the proud.
BrentonLet us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.
GreekΠροφθάσωμεν τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐξομολογήσει, καὶ ἐν ψαλμοῖς ἀλαλάξωμεν αὐτῷ.

ThomsonHow long shall sinners, O Lord—how long shall sinners boast?
BrentonFor the Lord is a great God, and a great king over all gods: for the Lord will not cast off his people.
GreekὍτι Θεὸς μέγας Κύριος, καὶ βασιλεὺς μέγας ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς θεούς·

ThomsonShall they declaim and utter injustice? Shall all the workers of iniquity speak?
BrentonFor the ends of the earth are in his hands; and the heights of the mountains are his.
Greekὅτι οὐκ ἀπώσεται Κύριος τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ τὰ πέρατα τῆς γῆς, καὶ τὰ ὕψη τῶν ὀρέων αὐτοῦ ἐστιν.

ThomsonThey have oppressed Thy people, O Lord: and afflicted Thine inheritance.
BrentonFor the sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.
GreekὍτι αὐτοῦ ἐστιν ἡ θάλασσα καὶ αὐτὸς ἐποίησεν αὐτὴν, καὶ τὴν ξηρὰν χεῖρες αὐτοῦ ἔπλασαν.

ThomsonThey have slain the widow and orphan: they have murdered the stranger,
BrentonCome, let us worship and fall down before him; and weep before the Lord that made us.
GreekΔεῦτε προσκυνήσωμεν καὶ προσπέσωμεν αὐτῷ, καὶ κλαύσωμεν ἐναντίον Κυρίου τοῦ ποίησαντος ἡμᾶς.

Thomsonand said, The Lord cannot see, nor can the God of Jacob discern.
BrentonFor he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

ThomsonConsider I beseech you, ye brutish among the people. And ye fools, at length be wise.
BrentonTo-day, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, according to the day of irritation in the wilderness:

ThomsonDoth not He, Who hath planted the ear, hear? And doth not He who formed the eye, see?
Brentonwhere your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works.
Greekοὗ ἐπείρασάν με οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν· ἐδοκίμασαν, καὶ εἶδον τὰ ἔργα μου.

ThomsonWill not He, Who chastiseth nations, reprove?—He Who teacheth man knowledge?
BrentonForty years was I grieved with this generation, and said, They do always err in their heart, and they have not known my ways.
GreekΤεσσαράκοντα ἔτη προσώχθισα τῇ γενεᾷ ἐκείνῃ, καὶ εἶπα, ἀεὶ πλανῶνται τῇ καρδίᾳ, καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν τὰς ὁδούς μου.

ThomsonThe Lord knoweth the thoughts of these men, that they are vain.
BrentonSo I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.
GreekὩς ὤμοσα ἐν τῇ ὀργῇ μου, εἰ εἰσελεύσονται εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσίν μου.
