ThomsonTHEN the Lord said to Moses, Go to Pharao and say to him, Thus saith the Lord the God of the Hebrews, Send away My people that they may serve Me.
BrentonAnd the Lord said to Moses, Go in to Pharao, and thou shalt say to him, These things saith the Lord God of the Hebrews; Send my people away that they may serve me.

ThomsonFor if thou wilt not send away My people but still detain them,
BrentonIf however thou wilt not send my people away, but yet detainest them:

Thomsonbehold the hand of the Lord will be upon thy cattle in the field: and among the horses and among the asses and the camels and the herds and the flocks there shall be a grievous pestilence.
Brentonbehold, the hand of the Lord shall be upon thy cattle in the fields, both on the horses, and on the asses, and on the camels and oxen and sheep, a very great mortality.
GreekἸδοὺ, χεὶρ Κυρίου ἐπέσται ἐν τοῖς κτήνεσί σου τοῖς ἐν τοῖς πεδίοις, ἔν τε τοῖς ἵπποις, καὶ ἐν τοῖς ὑποζυγίοις, καὶ ταῖς καμήλοις, καὶ βουσὶ, καὶ προβάτοις, θάνατος μέγας σφόδρα.

ThomsonAnd at this time also I will make a remarkable distinction between the cattle of the Egyptians and the cattle of the Israelites. Among the aforementioned belonging to Israel not one shall die.
BrentonAnd I will make a marvellous distinction in that time between the cattle of the Egyptians, and the cattle of the children of Israel: nothing shall die of all that is of the children's of Israel.

ThomsonAnd God fixed a set time saying, Tomorrow the Lord will do this in the land.

ThomsonSo on the morrow the Lord executed this, and all the cattle which died belonged to the Egyptians; but of the cattle belonging to the Israelites not one died.
BrentonAnd the Lord did this thing on the next day, and all the cattle of the Egyptians died, but of the cattle of the children of Israel there died not one.

ThomsonBut though Pharao saw that of all the cattle belonging to the Israelites not one died, his heart was inflexible and he would not let the people go.
BrentonAnd when Pharao saw, that of all the cattle of the children of Israel there died not one, the heart of Pharao was hardened, and he did not let the people go.

ThomsonThen the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron saying, Take handfuls of ashes from the furnace; and let Moses scatter them towards heaven in the presence of Pharao and before his attendants
BrentonAnd the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, Take you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses scatter it toward heaven before Pharao, and before his servants.

Thomsonand let there be dust on all the land of Egypt, and there shall be on men and four-footed beasts an inflammation; blains oozing forth both on man and beast in all the land of Egypt.
BrentonAnd let it become dust over all the land of Egypt, and there shall be upon men and upon beasts sore blains breaking forth both on men and on beasts, in all the land of Egypt.

ThomsonSo Moses took the ashes of a furnace in the sight of Pharao and scattered them towards heaven,
BrentonSo he took of the ashes of the furnace before Pharao, and Moses scattered it toward heaven, and it became sore blains breaking forth both on men and on beasts.

Thomsonand there was an inflammation with oozing blains both on man and beast, so that the sorcerers could not stand before Moses, because of these boils. For the boils were on the sorcerers and throughout all the land of Egypt.
BrentonAnd the sorcerers could not stand before Moses because of the sores, for the sores were on the sorcerers, and in all the land of Egypt.
GreekΚαὶ οὐκ ἠδύναντο οἱ φαρμακοὶ στῆναι ἐναντίον Μωυσῆ διὰ τὰ ἕλκη· ἐγένετο γὰρ τὰ ἕλκη ἐν τοῖς φαρμακοῖς, καὶ ἐν πάσῃ γῇ Αἰγύπτου.

ThomsonBut the Lord made Pharao’s heart stubborn and he hearkened not to them as the Lord commanded.
BrentonAnd the Lord hardened Pharao's heart, and he hearkened not to them, as the Lord appointed.
GreekἘσκλήρυνε δὲ Κύριος τὴν καρδίαν Φαραὼ, καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσεν αὐτῶν, καθὰ συνέταξε Κύριος.

ThomsonThen the Lord said to Moses, Rise early tomorrow morning and stand before Pharao and say to him, Thus saith the Lord the God of the Hebrews, Send away My people that they may serve Me.
BrentonAnd the Lord said to Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharao; and thou shalt say to him, These things saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, Send away my people that they may serve me.

ThomsonFor at this time I am going to send all My plagues into thy heart and the heart of thy servants and thy people, that thou mayst know that there is none like Me in all the earth. I might now indeed have stretched forth My hand and smitten thee and destroyed thy people with pestilence, so that thou shouldst have been blotted out from the earth:
BrentonFor at this present time do I send forth all my plagues into thine heart, and the heart of thy servants and of thy people; that thou mayest know that there is not another such as I in all the earth.

BrentonFor now I will stretch forth my hand and smite thee and kill thy people, and thou shalt be consumed from off the earth.

Thomsonbut thou hast been preserved for this purpose that by thee I might display My power and that My name may be celebrated throughout all the earth.
BrentonAnd for this purpose hast thou been preserved, that I might display in thee my strength, and that my name might be published in all the earth.
GreekΚαὶ ἕνεκεν τούτου διετηρήθης, ἵνα ἐνδείξωμαι ἐν σοὶ τὴν ἰσχύν μου, καὶ ὅπως διαγγελῇ τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ.

ThomsonShouldst thou therefore still determine with respect to My people not to let them go,
BrentonDost thou then yet exert thyself to hinder my people, so as not to let them go?
GreekἜτι οὖν σὺ ἐνποιῇ τοῦ λαοῦ μου, τοῦ μὴ ἐξαποστεῖλαι αὐτούς;

Thomsonbehold at this time to-morrow I will pour down a great storm of hail—such as hath never been in Egypt, from the day it was created even to this day.
BrentonBehold, to-morrow at this hour I will rain a very great hail, such as has not been in Egypt, from the time it was created until this day.
GreekἸδοὺ ἐγὼ ὕω ταύτην τὴν ὥραν αὔριον χάλαζαν πολλὴν σφόδρα, ἥτις τοιαύτη οὐ γέγονεν ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ, ἀφʼ ἧς ἡμέρας ἔκτισται, ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης.

ThomsonNow therefore haste and gather in thy cattle and whatever thou hast in the field. For every man and beast, which shall be found in the fields and shall not have come home, on them the hail shall fall and they shall die.
BrentonNow then hasten to gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the fields; for all the men and cattle as many as shall be found in the fields, and shall not enter into a house, (but the hail shall fall upon them,) shall die.

ThomsonSuch of the attendants of Pharao as feared the Lord gathered their cattle into houses.
BrentonHe of the servants of Pharao that feared the word of the Lord, gathered his cattle into the houses.
GreekὉ φοβούμενος τὸ ῥῆμα Κυρίου τῶν θεραπόντων Φαραὼ, συνήγαγε τὰ κτήνη αὐτοῦ εἰς τοὺς οἴκους.

ThomsonBut such as paid no regard to the word of the Lord left their cattle in the fields.
BrentonAnd he that did not attend in his mind to the word of the Lord, left the cattle in the fields.
GreekὋς δὲ μὴ πρόσεσχεν τῇ διανοίᾳ εἰς τὸ ῥῆμα Κυρίου, ἀφῆκε τὰ κτήνη ἐν τοῖς πεδίοις.

ThomsonThen the Lord said to Moses, Stretch forth thy hand towards heaven, and there shall be hail on all the land of Egypt, both on man and beast and on every herb which is on the ground.
BrentonAnd the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out thine hand to heaven, and there shall be hail on all the land of Egypt, both on the men and on the cattle, and on all the herbage on the land.

ThomsonAnd Moses stretched forth his hand towards heaven and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and the fire streamed along the ground. And the Lord poured down a storm of hail on all the land of Egypt.
BrentonAnd Moses stretched forth his hand to heaven, and the Lord sent thunderings and hail; and the fire ran along upon the ground, and the Lord rained hail on all the land of Egypt.

ThomsonAnd there was hail, with flaming fire among the hail. And the hailstorm was excessively great such as had never been in Egypt from the day there was a nation in it.
BrentonSo there was hail and flaming fire mingled with hail; and the hail was very great, such as was not in Egypt, from the time there was a nation upon it.

ThomsonAnd throughout all the land of Egypt the hail smote both man and beast. The hail also smote every herb of the field and broke to pieces all the trees in the fields.
BrentonAnd the hail smote in all the land of Egypt both man and beast, and the hail smote all the grass in the field, and the hail broke in pieces all the trees in the field.

ThomsonThen Pharao sent for Moses and Aaron and said to them, I have sinned this time. The Lord is righteous; but as for me and my people, we are wicked.
BrentonAnd Pharao sent and called Moses and Aaron, and said to them, I have sinned this time: the Lord is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.

ThomsonPray therefore for me to the Lord; and let the voices of God and the hail and fire cease and I will send you away and you shall stay no longer.
BrentonPray then for me to the Lord, and let him cause the thunderings of God to cease, and the hail and the fire, and I will send you forth and ye shall remain no longer.
GreekΕὔξασθε οὖν περὶ ἐμοῦ πρὸς Κύριον, καὶ παυσάσθω τοῦ γενηθῆναι φωνὰς Θεοῦ, καὶ χάλαζαν, καὶ πῦρ· καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ ὑμᾶς, καὶ οὐκέτι προστεθήσεσθε μένειν.

ThomsonAnd Moses said to him, As soon as I have gone out of the city I will spread out my hands to the Lord and the voices will cease and there will be no more hail and rain, that thou mayst know that the earth is the Lord’s.
BrentonAnd Moses said to him, When I shall have departed from the city, I will stretch out my hands to the Lord, and the thunderings shall cease, and the hail and the rain shall be no longer, that thou mayest know that the earth is the Lord's.

BrentonBut as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye have not yet feared the Lord.

ThomsonNow the flax and the barley were smitten, for the barley had eared and the flax was in seed.
BrentonAnd the flax and the barley were smitten, for the barley was advanced, and the flax was seeding.
GreekΤὸ δὲ λίνον καὶ ἡ κριθὴ ἐπλήγη· ἡ γὰρ κριθὴ παρεστηκυῖα, τὸ δὲ λίνον σπερματίζον.

ThomsonBut the wheat and spelts were not smitten for they had been lately sown.
BrentonBut the wheat and the rye were not smitten, for they were late.

ThomsonSo Moses went out from Pharao without the city and stretched forth his hands to the Lord. And the thunder ceased and the hail and the rain no longer poured down on the earth.
BrentonAnd Moses went forth from Pharao out of the city, and stretched out his hands to the Lord, and the thunders ceased and the hail, and the rain did not drop on the earth.

ThomsonAnd when Pharao saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder were stayed he continued on in his course of sinning and hardened his own heart and the hearts of his servants.
BrentonAnd when Pharao saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders ceased, he continued to sin; and he hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants.

ThomsonAnd Pharao’s heart was inflexible and he would not let the people go as the Lord had said to Moses.
