ThomsonAND he said to me, Son of man eat this roll and go and speak to the children of Israel.

GreekΚαὶ εἶπε πρὸς μὲ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, κατάφαγε τὴν κεφαλίδα ταύτην, καὶ πορεύθητι καὶ λάλησον τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἰσραήλ·

ThomsonAnd when he had opened my mouth and put the roll into it, he said to me, Son of man,
BrentonSo he opened my mouth, and caused me to eat the volume. And he said to me, Son of man,
GreekΚαὶ διήνοιξε τὸ στόμα μου, καὶ ἐψώμισέ με τὴν κεφαλίδα.

ThomsonLet thy mouth eat and thy belly be filled with this roll which is given thee. So I ate it, and it was in my mouth sweet as honey.
Brentonthy mouth shall eat, and thy belly shall be filled with this volume that is given to thee. So I ate it; and it was in my mouth as sweet honey.

ThomsonThen he said to me, Son of man, go and get thee to the house of Israel and speak to them these words of mine,
BrentonAnd he said to me, Son of man, go thy way, and go in to the house of Israel, and speak my words to them.
GreekΚαὶ εἶπε πρὸς μὲ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, βάδιζε καὶ εἴσελθε πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ λάλησον τοὺς λόγους μου πρὸς αὐτούς·

Thomsonseeing thou art sent to the house of Israel—not to a people of strange language,
BrentonFor thou art not sent to a people of hard speech, but to the house of Israel;
GreekΔιότι οὐ πρὸς λαὸν βαθύγλωσσον σὺ ἐξαποστέλλῃ πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ἰσραήλ·

Thomsonnor to many tribes of strange and foreign tongues, nor to them whose pronunciation is harsh and whose words thou canst not understand; though had I sent thee to such they might have hearkened to thee.
Brentonneither to many nations of other speech and other tongues, nor of harsh language, whose words thou wouldest not understand: although if I had sent thee to such, they would have hearkened to thee.
GreekΟὐδὲ πρὸς λαοὺς πολλοὺς ἀλλοφώνους ἢ ἀλλογλώσσους, οὐδὲ στιβαροὺς τῇ γλωσσῃ ὄντας, ὧν οὐκ ἀκούσῃ τοὺς λόγους· καὶ εἰ πρὸς τοιούτους ἐξαπέστειλά σε, οὗτοι ἂν εἰσήκουσάν σου.

ThomsonBut the house of Israel will not hearken to thee, since they are not willing to hearken to Me. Because all the house of Israel are contentious and stubborn,
BrentonBut the house of Israel will not be willing to hearken to thee; for they will not hearken to me: for all the house of Israel are stubborn and hard-hearted.
GreekὉ δὲ οἶκος τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ οὐ μὴ θελήσουσιν εἰσακοῦσαί σου, διότι οὐ βούλονται εἰσακούειν μου, ὅτι πᾶς ὁ οἶκος Ἰσραὴλ φιλόνεικοί εἰσι καὶ σκληροκάρδιοι.

Thomsontherefore behold I have made thy face strong against their faces, and I will invigorate thy struggle against their struggling
BrentonAnd, behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and I will strengthen thy power against their power.
GreekΚαὶ ἰδοὺ δέδωκα τὸ πρόσωπόν σου δυνατὸν κατέναντι τῶν προσώπων αὐτῶν, καὶ τὸ νῖκός σου κατισχύσω κατέναντι τοῦ νίκους αὐτῶν·

Thomsonand it shall be on all occasions firmer than a rock. Be not afraid of them nor daunted at their countenance, because they are a provoking house.
BrentonAnd it shall be continually stronger than a rock: be not afraid of them, neither be dismayed at their faces, because it is a provoking house.
GreekΚαὶ ἔσται διαπαντὸς κραταιότερον πέτρας· μὴ φοβηθῇς ἀπʼ αὐτῶν, μηδὲ πτοηθῇς ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν, διότι οἶκος παραπικραίνων ἐστί.

ThomsonThen he said to me, Son of man, lay up in thy heart all the words which I have spoken to thee; and
BrentonAnd he said to me, Son of man, receive into thine heart all the words that I have spoken to thee, and hear them with thine ears.
GreekΚαὶ εἶπε πρὸς μὲ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, πάντας τοὺς λόγους οὓς λελάληκα μετὰ σοῦ, λάβε εἰς τὴν καρδίαν σου, καὶ τοῖς ὠσί σου ἄκουε.

Thomsonhaving heard with thine ears go get thee to the captivity, to the children of thy people, and thou shalt speak to them and say to them, Thus saith the Lord, whether they hear or forbear.
BrentonAnd go thy way, go in to the captivity, to the children of thy people, and thou shalt speak to them, and say to them, Thus saith the Lord; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear.
GreekΚαὶ βάδιζε, εἴσελθε εἰς τὴν αἰχμαλωσίαν πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ λαοῦ σοῦ, καὶ λαλήσεις πρὸς αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτοὺς, τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ἐὰν ἄρα ἀκούσωσιν, ἐὰν ἄρα ἐνδῶσι.

ThomsonThen a blast of wind took me up and I heard behind me a sound of a great earthquake: Blessed be the glory of the Lord from this place of His;
BrentonThen the Spirit took me up, and I heard behind me the voice as of a great earthquake, saying, Blessed be the glory of the Lord from his place.
GreekΚαὶ ἀνέλαβέ με πνεῦμα, καὶ ἤκουσα κατόπισθέν μου φωνὴν σεισμοῦ μεγάλου, εὐλογημένη ἡ δόξα Κυρίου ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ.

Thomsonwhereupon I looked towards the sound and saw that this sound of an earthquake was that of the wings flapping one against another and that of the wheels near them.
BrentonAnd I perceived the sound of the wings of the living creatures clapping one to the other, and the sound of the wheels was near them, and the sound of the earthquake.
GreekΚαὶ ἴδον φωνὴν τῶν πτερύγων τῶν ζώων πτερυσσομένων ἑτέρα πρὸς τὴν ἑτέραν, καὶ φωνὴ τῶν τροχῶν ἐχομένη αὐτῶν, καὶ φωνὴ τοῦ σεισμοῦ.

ThomsonThen the blast lifted me up and bore me aloft and I went by the impulse of my own spirit, and the hand of the Lord upon me was strong.
BrentonAnd the Spirit lifted me, and took me up, and I went in the impulse of my spirit; and the hand of the Lord was mighty upon me.
GreekΚαὶ τὸ πνεῦμα ἐξῇρέ με, καὶ ἀνέλαβέ με, καὶ ἐπορεύθην ἐν ὁρμῇ τοῦ πνεύματός μου, καὶ χεὶρ Κυρίου ἐγένετο ἐπʼ ἐμὲ κραταιά.

ThomsonAnd being borne aloft I came to the captivity and went round among them who dwelt by the river Chobar—among them who were there. And I abode there seven days conversing with them.
BrentonThen I passed through the air and came into the captivity, and went round to them that dwelt by the river of Chobar who were there; and I sat there seven days, conversant in the midst of them.

ThomsonI have made thee a watchman to the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear a word from My mouth and warn them from Me;
BrentonI have made thee a watchman to the house of Israel; and thou shalt hear a word of my mouth, and shalt threaten them from me.
Greekυἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, σκοπὸν δέδωκά σε τῷ οἴκῳ Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ ἀκούσῃ ἐκ στόματός μου λόγον, καὶ διαπειλήσῃ αὐτοῖς παρʼ ἐμοῦ.

ThomsonWhen I say to the unrighteous, Thou shalt surely die, and [if] thou hast not warned the unrighteous to turn from his ways that he may live, [then] that unrighteous man shall die for his iniquity; but his blood I will require at thy hand.
BrentonWhen I say to the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou hast not warned him, to give warning to the wicked, to turn from his ways, that he should live; that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thy hand.
GreekἘν τῷ λέγειν με τῷ ἀνόμῳ, θανάτῳ θανατωθήσῃ· καὶ οὐ διεστείλω αὐτῷ τοῦ διαστείλασθαι τῷ ἀνόμῳ, ἀποστρέψαι ἀπὸ τῶν ὁδῶν αὐτοῦ, τοῦ ζῆσαι αὐτόν· ὁ ἄνομος ἐκεῖνος τῇ ἀδικίᾳ αὐτοῦ ἀποθανεῖται, καὶ τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῆς χειρός σου ἐκζητήσω.

ThomsonBut if thou hast warned the unrighteous and he will not turn from his iniquity and from his way, that unrighteous man shall die for his iniquity, and thou shalt deliver thy soul.
BrentonBut if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, and from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, and thou shalt deliver thy soul.
GreekΚαὶ σὺ ἐὰν διαστείλῃ τῷ ἀνόμῳ, καὶ μὴ ἀποστρέψῃ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀνομίας αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ, ὁ ἄνομος ἐκεῖνος ἐν τῇ ἀδικίᾳ αὐτοῦ ἀποθανεῖται, καὶ σὺ τὴν ψυχήν σου ῥύσῃ.

ThomsonSo when a righteous man turneth from his righteous acts, and shall commit transgression though I lay the punishment before him; he shall die. Because thou hast not warned him, though he indeed shall die for his sins (for his righteous acts will not be remembered); yet his blood I will require at thy hand.
BrentonAnd when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits a trespass, and I shall bring punishment before him, he shall die, because thou didst not warn him: he shall even die in his sins, because his righteousness shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
GreekΚαὶ ἐν τῷ ἀποστρέφειν δίκαιον ἀπὸ τῶν δικαιοσυνῶν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ποιήσει παράπτωμα, καὶ δώσω τὴν βάσανον εἰς πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ, αὐτὸς ἀποθανεῖται, ὅτι οὐ διεστείλω αὐτῷ· καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις αὐτοῦ ἀποθανεῖται, διότι οὐ μὴ μνησθῶσιν αἱ δικαιοσύναι αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῆς χειρός σου ἐκζητήσω.

ThomsonBut if thou hast warned the righteous man not to sin and he sinneth not, the righteous man shall live; and because thou hast warned him, thou shalt deliver thy soul.
BrentonBut if thou warn the righteous not to sin, and he sin not, the righteous shall surely live, because thou hast warned him; and thou shalt deliver thine own soul.
GreekΣὺ δὲ ἐὰν διαστείλῃ τῷ δικαίῳ τοῦ μὴ ἁμαρτεῖν, καὶ αὐτὸς μὴ ἁμάρτῃ, ὁ δίκαιος ζωῇ ζήσεται, ὅτι διεστείλω αὐτῷ, καὶ σὺ τὴν σεαυτοῦ ψυχὴν ῥύσῃ.

ThomsonThen the hand of the Lord was upon me; and He said to me, Arise and go out to the plain and I will there speak to thee.
BrentonAnd the hand of the Lord came upon me; and he said to me, Arise, and go forth into the plain, and there shalt thou be spoken to.
GreekΚαὶ ἐγένετο ἐπʼ ἐμὲ χεὶρ Κυρίου· καὶ εἶπε πρὸς μὲ, ἀνάστηθι, καὶ ἔξελθε εἰς τὸ πεδίον, καὶ ἐκεῖ λαληθήσεται πρὸς σέ.

ThomsonSo I arose and went out to the plain; and behold, the glory of the Lord stood there like the vision and like the glory of the Lord which I saw by the river Chobar. Whereupon I fell on my face.
BrentonAnd I arose, and went forth to the plain: and, behold, the glory of the Lord stood there, according to the vision, and according to the glory of the Lord, which I saw by the river of Chobar: and I fell on my face.

ThomsonAnd a blast of wind came upon me and set me on my feet, and He spoke to me and said to me, Go and shut thyself up in thy house.
BrentonThen the Spirit came upon me, and set me on my feet, and spoke to me, and said to me, Go in, and shut thyself up in the midst of thine house.
GreekΚαὶ ἦλθεν ἐπʼ ἐμὲ πνεῦμα, καὶ ἔστησέ με ἐπὶ τοὺς πόδας μου, καὶ ἐλάλησε πρὸς μὲ, καὶ εἶπε μοι, εἴσελθε, καὶ ἐγκλείσθητι ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ οἴκου σου.

ThomsonNow son of man, behold chains are prepared for thee; and thou shalt be bound with them and shalt not get out of them.
BrentonAnd thou, son of man, behold, bonds are prepared for thee, and they shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not come forth of the midst of them.
GreekΚαὶ σὺ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, ἰδοὺ δέδονται ἐπὶ σὲ δεσμοὶ, καὶ δήσουσί σε ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐξέλθῃς ἐκ μέσου αὐτῶν.

ThomsonAnd I will bind up thy tongue, that thou mayst be dumb and not be to them a reprover, because they are a rebellious house.
BrentonAlso I will bind thy tongue, and thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: because it is a provoking house.
GreekΚαὶ τὴν γλῶσσάν σου συνδήσω, καὶ ἀποκωφωθήσῃ, καὶ οὐκ ἔσῃ αὐτοῖς εἰς ἄνδρα ἐλέγχοντα, διότι οἶκος παραπικραίνων ἐστί.

ThomsonAnd when I speak to thee, I will open thy mouth and thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord, whoso heareth let him hear; and let him who is disobedient, be disobedient, since they are a rebellious house.
BrentonBut when I speak to thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord, He that hears, let him hear; and he that is disobedient, let him be disobedient: because it is a provoking house.
GreekΚαὶ ἐν τῷ λαλεῖν με πρὸς σὲ, ἀνοίξω τὸ στόμα σου, καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτοὺς τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ὁ ἀκούων ἀκουέτω, καὶ ὁ ἀπειθῶν ἀπειθείτω, διότι οἶκος παραπικραίνων ἐστί.
