ThomsonTHEN the hand of the Lord came upon me. And the Lord led me out in spirit and set me in the midst of a plain which was full of human bones.
BrentonAnd the hand of the Lord came upon me, and the Lord brought me forth by the Spirit, and set me in the midst of the plain, and it was full of human bones.
GreekΚαὶ ἐγένετο ἐπʼ ἐμὲ χεὶρ Κυρίου, καὶ ἐξήγαγέ με ἐν πνεύματι Κύριος, καὶ ἔθηκέ με ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ πεδίου, καὶ τοῦτο ἦν μεστὸν ὀστέων ἀνθρωπίνων,

ThomsonAnd he led me all around them. And lo! there was an immense quantity on the surface of the plain, and they were very dry.
BrentonAnd he led me round about them every way: and, behold, there were very many on the face of the plain, very dry.
Greekκαὶ περιήγαγέ με ἐπʼ αὐτὰ κυκλόθεν κύκλῳ, καὶ ἰδοὺ πολλὰ σφόδρα ἐπὶ προσώπου τοῦ πεδίου, ξηρὰ σφόδρα.

ThomsonAnd he said to me, Son of man, shall these bones revive? Whereupon I said, Lord, Lord, thou knowest such things.
BrentonAnd he said to me, Son of man, will these bones live? and I said, O Lord God, thou knowest this.
GreekΚαὶ εἶπε πρὸς μὲ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, εἰ ζήσεται τὰ ὀστέα ταῦτα; καὶ εἶπα, Κύριε Κύριε, σὺ ἐπίστῃ ταῦτα.

ThomsonThen he said to me, Prophesy concerning these bones and say to them, Ye bones which are dry, hear a word of the Lord.
BrentonAnd he said to me, Prophesy upon these bones, and thou shalt say to them, Ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.

Thomsonand upon you I will lay sinews; and I will bring flesh on you and stretch skin over you, and put My breath in you and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the Lord.
Brentonand I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and will spread skin upon you, and will put my Spirit into you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

ThomsonSo I prophesied as he commanded me, and it came to pass that, when I had prophesied, behold there was a tremulous motion and it brought the bones together, every one to its proper place.
BrentonSo I prophesied as the Lord commanded me: and it came to pass while I was prophesying, that, behold, there was a shaking, and the bones approached each one to his joint.
GreekΚαὶ προεφήτευσα, καθὼς ἐνετείλατό μοι· καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἐμὲ προφητεῦσαι, καὶ ἰδοὺ σεισμὸς, καὶ προσήγαγε τὰ ὀστᾶ ἑκάτερον πρὸς τὴν ἁρμονίαν αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonAnd I beheld and lo! sinews and flesh were grown upon them, and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
BrentonAnd I looked, and, behold, sinews and flesh grew upon them, and skin came upon them above: but there was no breath in them.
GreekΚαὶ ἴδον, καὶ ἰδοὺ, ἐπʼ αὐτὰ νεῦρα καὶ σάρκες ἐφύοντο, καὶ ἀνέβαινεν ἐπʼ αὐτὰ δέρματα ἐπάνω, καὶ πνεῦμα οὐκ ἦν ἐπʼ αὐτοῖς.

ThomsonThen he said to me, Prophesy to the wind. Prophesy, son of man and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord: From the four winds, come and blow on these dead and let them live.
BrentonAnd he said to me, Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord; Come from the four winds, and breathe upon these dead men, and let them live.

ThomsonThen the Lord spoke to me saying, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Now they say, Our bones are become dry. Our hope is gone. We are wasted to a shadow.
BrentonAnd the Lord spoke to me, saying, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: and they say, Our bones are become dry, our hope has perished, we are quite spent.

ThomsonTherefore prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord: Behold I will open your graves; and bring you up out of your tombs and bring you into the land of Israel, and you shall know that I am the Lord.

ThomsonWhen I have opened your graves that I may bring up My people out of the graves I will then put My breath in you and you shall live.
BrentonAnd ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, that I may bring up my people from their graves.
GreekΚαὶ γνώσεσθε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι Κύριος, ἐν τῷ ἀνοῖξαί με τοὺς τάφους ὑμῶν, τοῦ ἀναγαγεῖν με ἐκ τῶν τάφων τὸν λαόν μου.

ThomsonAnd I will settle you in your own land; and you shall know that I am the Lord. I have spoken and I will perform, saith the Lord.
BrentonAnd I will put my Spirit within you, and ye shall live, and I will place you upon your own land: and ye shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and will do it, saith the Lord.

ThomsonSon of man, take thee a staff and write thereon, Juda and the children of Israel who adhere to him, Then thou shalt take thee another staff and write thereon, For Joseph the staff of Ephraim, and for all the children of Israel who adhere to him.
BrentonSon of man, take for thyself a rod, and write upon it, Juda, and the children of Israel his adherents; and thou shalt take for thyself another rod, and thou shalt inscribe it for Joseph, the rod of Ephraim, and all the children of Israel that belong to him.

ThomsonThen thou shalt join them one to the other to be bound together into one staff for thee, and they shall be in thy hand.
BrentonAnd thou shalt join them together for thyself, so as that they should bind themselves into one stick; and they shall be in thine hand.
GreekΚαὶ συνάψεις αὐτὰς προσαλλήλας σεαυτῷ, εἰς ῥάβδον μίαν τοῦ δῆσαι ἑαυτὰς, καὶ ἔσονται ἐν τῇ χειρί σου.

ThomsonAnd when the children of thy people say to thee, Why dost thou not tell us, what thou meanest by these?
BrentonAnd it shall come to pass, when the children of thy people shall say to thee, Wilt thou not tell us what thou meanest by these things?
GreekΚαὶ ἔσται ὅταν λέγωσι πρὸς σὲ οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ λαοῦ σου, οὐκ ἀναγγέλλεις ἡμῖν, τί ἐστι ταῦτά σοι;

ThomsonThen thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord: Behold I will take the tribe of Joseph which is administered by Ephraim and the tribes of Israel which adhere to him, and add them to the tribe of Juda, and they shall be one sceptre in the hand of Juda.
BrentonThen shalt thou say to them, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will take the tribe of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel that belong to him, and I will add them to the tribe of Juda, and they shall become one rod in the hand of Juda.

ThomsonAnd while the staves on which thou hast written shall be in thy hand before them,
BrentonAnd the rods on which thou didst write shall be in thine hand in their presence.
GreekΚαὶ ἔσονται αἱ ῥάβδοι ἐφʼ αἷς σὺ ἔγραψας ἐπʼ αὐταῖς, ἐν τῇ χειρί σου ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν.

Thomsonthou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will take the whole house of Israel from among the nations, whither they went; and I will gather them from all those around them, and bring them to the land of Israel,
BrentonAnd thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the whole house of Israel out of the midst of the nations, among whom they have gone, and I will gather them from all that are round about them, and I will bring them into the land of Israel.

Thomsonand make them a nation in My land even on the mountains of Israel. And there shall be one chief over them. And they shall no more be two nations; nor shall they any more be split into two kingdoms,
BrentonAnd I will make them a nation in my land, even on the mountains of Israel; and they shall have one prince: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided any more at all into two kingdoms:
Greekκαὶ δώσω αὐτοὺς εἰς ἔθνος ἐν τῇ γῇ μου, καὶ ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσιν Ἰσραήλ· καὶ ἄρχων εἷς ἔσται αὐτῶν, καὶ οὐκ ἔσονται ἔτι εἰς δύο ἔθνη, οὐδὲ, μὴ διαιρεθῶσιν οὐκέτι εἰς δύο βασιλείας,

Thomsonthat they may no more be polluted with their idols. And I will deliver them from all their iniquities and purify them from all their sins which they have committed. And they shall be My people, and I the Lord will be their God.
Brentonthat they may no more defile themselves with their idols; and I will deliver them from all their transgressions whereby they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and they shall be to me a people, and I the Lord will be to them a God.
Greekἵνα μὴ μιαίνωνται ἔτι ἐν τοῖς εἰδώλοις αὐτῶν· καὶ ῥύσομαι αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ πασῶν τῶν ἀνομιῶν αὐτῶν, ὧν ἡμάρτοσαν ἐν αὐταῖς, καὶ καθαριῶ αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἔσονταί μοι εἰς λαὸν, καὶ ἐγὼ Κύριος ἔσομαι αὐτοῖς εἰς Θεόν.

ThomsonAnd My servant David shall be chief among them. He shall be singly the shepherd of all. Because they will walk in My statutes, and keep My judgments, and practise them,
BrentonAnd my servant David shall be a prince in the midst of them: there shall be one shepherd of them all; for they shall walk in mine ordinances, and keep my judgments, and do them.
GreekΚαὶ ὁ δοῦλός μου Δαυὶδ ἄρχων ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν, ἔσται ποιμὴν εἷς πάντων, ὅτι ἐν τοῖς προστάγμασί μου πορεύσονται, καὶ τὰ κρίματά μου φυλάξονται, καὶ ποιήσουνσιν αὐτά.

Thomsontherefore they shall dwell in that land of theirs which I gave to My servant Jacob. Where their fathers dwelt there they shall dwell and My servant David shall be the only chief forever.
BrentonAnd they shall dwell in their land, which I have given to my servant Jacob, where their fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell upon it: and David my servant shall be their prince for ever.

ThomsonAnd I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them.
BrentonAnd I will make with them a covenant of peace; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will establish my sanctuary in the midst of them for ever.
GreekΚαὶ διαθήσομαι αὐτοῖς διαθήκην εἰρήνης, διαθήκη αἰωνία ἔσται μετʼ αὐτῶν, καὶ θήσω τὰ ἅγιά μου ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα,

ThomsonAnd I will place My sanctuary in the midst of them forever. And My habitation shall be among them; and I will be their God and they shall be My people.
BrentonAnd my tabernacle shall be among them; and I will be to them a God, and they shall be my people.
Greekκαὶ ἔσται ἡ κατασκήνωσίς μου ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἔσομαι αὐτοῖς Θεὸς, καὶ αὐτοί μου ἔσονται λαός·

ThomsonAnd the nations shall know that I am the Lord who sanctifieth them, by My sanctuary being in the midst of them forever.
BrentonAnd the nations shall know that I am the Lord that sanctifies them, when my sanctuary is in the midst of them for ever.
GreekΚαὶ γνώσονται τὰ ἔθνη ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι Κύριος ὁ ἁγιάζων αὐτοὺς, ἐν τῷ εἶναι τὰ ἅγιά μου ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.
