1
ThomsonTHEN he brought me back by the way of the outer gate of these holy places, facing the east, and it was shut.
BrentonThen he brought me back by the way of the outer gate of the sanctuary that looks eastward; and it was shut.
2
ThomsonAnd the Lord said to me, This gate shall be kept shut. It shall not be opened, nor shall any pass through it. Because the Lord God of Israel will enter in at it, therefore it shall be kept shut.
BrentonAnd the Lord said to me, This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no one shall pass through it; for the Lord God of Israel shall enter by it, and it shall be shut.
3
ThomsonConsequently, when the ruler himself shall sit there to eat bread before the Lord, he shall come in by the way of the porch of this gate and by that way he shall go out.
BrentonFor the prince, he shall sit in it, to eat bread before the Lord; he shall go in by the way of the porch of the gate, and shall go forth by the way of the same.
4
ThomsonThen he brought me in by the way of the north gate over against the house, and I beheld and lo! the house of the Lord was filled with glory and I fell on my face.
BrentonAnd he brought me in by the way of the gate that looks northward, in front of the house: and I looked, and, behold, the house was full of the glory of the Lord: and I fell upon my face.
5
ThomsonAnd the Lord said to me, Son of man, Lay up in thy heart and see with thine eyes and hear with thine ears, all that I say to thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the Lord and all the customs thereof; and thou shalt attend diligently to the way of entering into the house and to all the ways out of it in all these holy places.
BrentonAnd the Lord said to me, Son of man, attend with thine heart, and see with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say to thee, according to all the ordinances of the house of the Lord, and all the regulations thereof; and thou shalt attend well to the entrance of the house, according to all its outlets, in all the holy things.
6
ThomsonAnd thou shalt say to this provoking house, to the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God: Let it suffice you, O house of Israel, for all your iniquities
BrentonAnd thou shalt say to the provoking house, even to the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Let it suffice you to have committed all your iniquities, O house of Israel!
7
Thomsonthat you have introduced strangers, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, to be present in these holy places of Mine and to profane them when you were offering loaves, flesh meat and blood.
Brentonthat ye have brought in aliens, uncircumcised in heart, and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, and to profane it, when ye offered bread, flesh, and blood; and ye transgressed my covenant by all your iniquities;
8
ThomsonYou indeed broke My covenant by all your iniquities and you appointed them to keep the watches in My holy places.
Brentonand ye appointed others to keep the charges in my sanctuary.
9
ThomsonTherefore thus saith the Lord God: No stranger, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh shall enter into My holy places. Among all the sons of other families which are comprehended in the house of Israel none but the Levites only shall enter.
BrentonTherefore thus saith the Lord God; No alien, uncircumcised in heart or uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of all the children of strangers that are in the midst of the house of Israel.
10
ThomsonSuch of these as were drawn away from Me when Israel strayed from Me after their own desires shall indeed bear their iniquity and
BrentonBut as for the Levites who departed far from me when Israel went astray from me after their imaginations, they shall even bear their iniquity.
11
Thomsonbe ministering servants in My sanctuary. They shall be porters at the gates of the house and ministering servants for the house. They shall kill the sacrifices and the whole burnt offerings for the people and they shall stand before the people to wait upon them.
BrentonYet they shall minister in my sanctuary, being porters at the gates of the house, and serving the house: they shall slay the victims and the whole-burnt-offerings for the people, and they shall stand before the people to minister to them.
12
ThomsonBecause they waited on them before their idols, and this brought on Israel the punishment of rebellion; therefore I have lifted up My hand against them, saith the Lord God,
BrentonBecause they ministered to them before their idols, and it became to the house of Israel a punishment of iniquity; therefore have I lifted up my hand against them, saith the Lord God.
13
Thomsonthat they shall not come near Me to minister to Me as priests, nor approach the holy things of the children of Israel, nor My Holy of Holies; but shall bear their dishonour for the error of which they have been guilty.
BrentonAnd they shall not draw nigh to me to minister to me in the priests' office, nor to approach the holy things of the children of Israel, nor to approach my holy of holies: but they shall bear their reproach for the error wherein they erred.
14
ThomsonAnd they shall be compelled to keep the watches of the house, to perform all the services of the house and all the services required of them
BrentonThey shall bring them to keep the charges of the house, for all the service of it, and for all that they shall do.
15
Thomsonby the priests, the Levites, the sons of Sadduk. These kept the watches of My sanctuary when the house of Israel strayed from Me. These shall approach Me to minister to Me. And they shall stand before Me to offer unto Me sacrifice, suet and blood, saith the Lord God.
BrentonThe priests the Levites, the sons of Sadduc, who kept the charges of my sanctuary when the house of Israel went astray from me, these shall draw nigh to me to minister to me, and shall stand before my face, to offer sacrifice to me, the fat and the blood, saith the Lord God.
16
ThomsonThese shall enter into My sanctuary; and these shall come to My table to minister to Me. And they shall keep My watches.
BrentonThese shall enter into my sanctuary, and these shall approach my table, to minister to me, and they shall keep my charges.
17
ThomsonAnd when they enter the gates of the inner court, they shall be dressed in linen robes and shall not wear woolens, while they are officiating within the gate of the inner court.
BrentonAnd it shall come to pass when they enter the gates of the inner court, that they shall put on linen robes; and they shall not put on woollen garments when they minister at the gate of the inner court.
18
ThomsonAnd they shall have linen mitres on their heads, and linen garments about their loins. And they shall not be tightly girded.
BrentonAnd they shall have linen mitres upon their heads, and shall have linen drawers upon their loins; and they shall not tightly gird themselves.
19
ThomsonAnd when they are going out into the outer court to the people, they shall put off their linen robes in which they minister and lay them up in the chambers of the sanctuary and put on other robes. For with those robes of theirs they must not bless the people.
BrentonAnd when they go out into the outer court to the people, they shall put off their robes, in which they minister; and they shall lay them up in the chambers of the sanctuary, and shall put on other robes, and they shall not sanctify the people with their robes.
20
ThomsonMoreover they shall not shave their heads, nor pull out their hair by the roots. They shall keep their heads covered.
BrentonAnd they shall not shave their heads, nor shall they pluck off their hair; they shall carefully cover their heads.
21
ThomsonAnd none of the priests shall drink wine when they go into the inner court.

22
ThomsonMoreover they shall not take to wife a widow, nor one who hath been divorced; but only a virgin of the race of Israel. However, if there be a widow of a priest, they may take her.
BrentonNeither shall they take to themselves to wife a widow, or one that is put away, but a virgin of the seed of Israel: but if there should happen to be a priest's widow, they shall take her.
23
ThomsonAnd they shall teach My people the difference between what is holy and what is common, and cause them to distinguish between clean and unclean.
BrentonAnd they shall teach my people to distinguish between holy and profane, and they shall make known to them the difference between unclean and clean.
24
ThomsonAnd they shall attend at trials for blood to pronounce sentence. They shall acquit according to My statutes, and condemn according to My judgments. And they shall keep all My rites and Mine ordinances at all My festivals and shall hallow My sabbaths.
BrentonAnd these shall attend at a judgment of blood to decide it: they shall rightly observe my ordinances, and judge my judgments, and keep my statutes and my commandments in all my feasts; and they shall hallow my sabbaths.
25
ThomsonAnd they shall not go in where there is a person dead, to defile themselves. Only for a father or for a mother, or for a son or for a daughter, or for a brother or for a sister that hath not been married, shall a priest defile himself.
BrentonAnd they shall not go in to the dead body of a man to defile themselves: only a priest may defile himself for a father, or for a mother, or for a son, or for a daughter, or for a brother, or for his sister, who has not been married.
26
ThomsonAnd after he is purified thou shalt reckon for him seven days.

28
ThomsonNow with regard to their inheritance I will be their inheritance, therefore no possession shall be given them among the sons of Israel.
BrentonAnd it shall be to them for an inheritance: I am their inheritance: and no possession shall be given them among the children of Israel; for I am their possession.
29
ThomsonBecause I am their possession, therefore they shall eat the sacrifices and the sin offerings and the offerings for inadvertencies. Moreover every dedication in Israel shall be for them.
BrentonAnd these shall eat the meat-offerings, and the sin-offerings, and the trespass-offerings; and every special offering in Israel shall be theirs.
30
ThomsonAll the first fruits and all the firstlings and all oblations. Of all your first fruits a part shall be for the priests, therefore you shall give your first fruits to the priest that your blessings may rest on your houses.
BrentonAnd the first-fruits of all things, and the first-born of all animals and all offerings, of all your first-fruits there shall be a share for the priests; and ye shall give your earliest produce to the priest, to bring your blessings upon your houses.
31
ThomsonBut whatever hath died of itself and whatever hath been torn by wild beasts, whether it be of fowls or of cattle, the priests shall not eat.
BrentonAnd the priests shall eat no bird or beast that dies of itself, or is taken of wild beasts.
