4
ThomsonI am a stranger and sojourner among you, give me therefore the possession of a burying place among you, that I may bury my dead from before me.
BrentonI am a sojourner and a stranger among you, give me therefore possession of a burying-place among you, and I will bury my dead away from me.

ThomsonAnd the children of Chet answered and said to Abraham,
BrentonAnd the sons of Chet answered to Abraam, saying, Not so, Sir,
6
ThomsonNay, Sir, rather hearken to us. Thou art a king from God among us. In the choice of our tombs bury thy dead; for there is none of us who will deny thee his tomb to bury there thy dead.
Brentonbut hear us; thou art in the midst of us a king from God; bury thy dead in our choice sepulchres, for not one of us will by any means withhold his sepulchre from thee, so that thou shouldest not bury thy dead there.
7
ThomsonThen Abraham standing up made obeisance to the people of the land—the children of Chet.
BrentonAnd Abraam rose up and did obeisance to the people of the land, to the sons of Chet.
8
ThomsonAnd Abraham spoke to them saying, If it be your wish that I should bury this my dead out of my sight, hearken to me and speak for me to Ephron the son of Saar.
BrentonAnd Abraam spoke to them, saying, If ye have it in your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hearken to me, and speak for me to Ephron the son of Saar.
9
ThomsonAnd let him give me the double cave which belongeth to him—that which is in a part of his field. Let him give it to me for the full value of it, among you, for a possession of a burying place.
BrentonAnd let him give me the double cave which he has, which is in a part of his field, let him give it me for the money it is worth for possession of a burying-place among you.
10
ThomsonNow Ephron was sitting among the children of Chet; And Ephron the Chettite answered Abraham and said in the hearing of the children of Chet and of all coming into the city,
BrentonNow Ephron was sitting in the midst of the children of Chet, and Ephron the Chettite answered Abraam and spoke in the hearing of the sons of Chet, and of all who entered the city, saying,
11
ThomsonAttend, sir, and hearken to me. The field and the cave which is in it I give thee. In the presence of my fellow citizens I have given them to thee. Bury thy dead.
BrentonAttend to me, my lord, and hear me, I give to thee the field and the cave which is in it; I have given it thee before all my countrymen; bury thy dead.
12
ThomsonAnd when Abraham had made obeisance before all the people of the land,
BrentonAnd Abraam did obeisance before the people of the land.

Thomsonhe said to Ephron in the hearing of all the people of the land, As thou art here before me, hearken to me. Take of me in silver the value of the field and I will bury my dead there.
BrentonAnd he said in the ears of Ephron before the people of the land, Since thou art on my side, hear me; take the price of the field from me, and I will bury my dead there.
14
ThomsonWhereupon Ephron answered Abraham, saying,

15
ThomsonNay, sir, I have indeed heard that the land is worth four hundred didrachms of silver; but what can that be between me and thee? But bury thou thy dead.
BrentonNay, my lord, I have heard indeed, the land is worth four hundred silver didrachms, but what can this be between me and thee? nay, do thou bury thy dead.
16
ThomsonAnd Abraham hearkened to Ephron; and Abraham paid down to Ephron the money which he mentioned in the hearing of the children of Chet, four hundred didrachms of silver current among merchants.
BrentonAnd Abraam hearkened to Ephron, and Abraam rendered to Ephron the money, which he mentioned in the ears of the sons of Chet, four hundred didrachms of silver approved with merchants.

19
ThomsonAfter this Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the double cave of the field which is over against Mambre (the same is Chebron in the land of Chanaan).
BrentonAfter this Abraam buried Sarrha his wife in the Double Cave of the field, which is opposite Mambre, this is Chebron in the land of Chanaan.

ThomsonAnd the property of the field and the cave in it was confirmed to Abraham for a possession of a burying place by the children of Chet.
