ThomsonPRAISE the Lord, O my soul: while I live I will praise the Lord.
BrentonAlleluia, a Psalm of Aggæus and Zacharias. Praise ye the Lord: for psalmody is a good thing; let praise be sweetly sung to our God.
GreekἈλληλούϊα· Ἀγγαίου καὶ Ζαχαρίου. Αἰνεῖτε τὸν Κύριον ὅτι ἀγαθὸν ψαλμός, τῷ Θεῷ ἡμῶν ἡδυνθείη αἴνεσις.

ThomsonI will sing praises to God, while I have a being.
BrentonThe Lord builds up Jerusalem; and he will gather together the dispersed of Israel.
GreekΟἰκοδομῶν Ἱερουσαλὴμ ὁ Κύριος, καὶ τὰς διασπορὰς τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ ἐπισυνάξει·

ThomsonTrust not in chiefs, nor in sons of men, in whom there is no safety.
BrentonHe heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
GreekὉ ἰώμενος τοὺς συντετριμμένους τὴν καρδίαν, καὶ δεσμεύων τὰ συντρίμματα αὐτῶν·

ThomsonHis breath goeth out and He shall return to His earth; on that day all His projects shall perish.
BrentonHe numbers the multitudes of stars; and calls them all by names.
GreekὉ ἀριθμῶν πλήθη ἄστρων, καὶ πᾶσιν αὐτοῖς ὀνόματα καλῶν.

ThomsonHappy he whose helper is the God of Jacob: his hope is in the Lord his God;
BrentonGreat is our Lord, and great is his strength; and his understanding is infinite.
GreekΜέγας ὁ Κύριος ἡμῶν, καὶ μεγάλη ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτοῦ, καὶ τῆς συνέσεως αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμός.

ThomsonWho made the heaven and the earth, the sea and all the things in them;
BrentonThe Lord lifts up the meek; but brings sinners down to the ground.
GreekἈναλαμβάνων πρᾳεῖς ὁ Κύριος, ταπεινῶν δὲ ἁμαρτωλοὺς ἕως τῆς γῆς.

ThomsonWho keepeth truth forever, executing judgment for the aggrieved, giving food to the hungry.
BrentonBegin the song with thanksgiving to the Lord; sing praises on the harp to our God:
GreekἘξάρξατε τῷ Κυρίῳ ἐν ἐξομολογήσει, ψάλατε τῷ Θεῷ ἡμῶν ἐν κιθάρᾳ·

ThomsonThe Lord looseth them who were bound. The Lord causeth the blind to see clearly. The Lord raiseth up them who were broken down. The Lord loveth the righteous.
Brentonwho covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who causes grass to spring up on the mountains, [and green herb for the service of men;]
GreekΤῷ περιβάλλοντι τὸν οὐρανὸν ἐν νεφέλαις, τῷ ἑτοιμάζοντι τῇ γῇ ὑετόν· τῷ ἐξανατέλλοντι ἐν ὄρεσι χόρτον, καὶ χλόην τῇ δουλείᾳ τῶν ἀνθρώπων·

ThomsonThe Lord preserveth the strangers. He will support the orphan and the widow, and destroy the way of the wicked.
Brentonand gives to cattle their food, and to the young ravens that call upon him.
Greekκαὶ διδόντι τοῖς κτήνεσι τροφὴν αὐτῶν, καὶ τοῖς νεοσσοῖς τῶν κοράκων τοῖς ἐπικαλουμένοις αὐτόν.

ThomsonThe Lord will reign forever—thy God, O Sion, throughout all generations.
BrentonHe will not take pleasure in the strength of a horse; neither is he well-pleased with the legs of a man.
GreekΟὐκ ἐν τῇ δυναστείᾳ τοῦ ἵππου θελήσει, οὐδὲ ἐν ταῖς κνήμαις τοῦ ἀνδρὸς εὐδοκεῖ.

BrentonThe Lord takes pleasure in them that fear him, and in all that hope in his mercy.
GreekΕὐδοκεῖ Κύριος ἐν τοῖς φοβουμένοις αὐτὸν, καὶ ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἐλπιζουσιν ἐπὶ τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ.
