ThomsonI WILL love Thee, O Lord, my strength!

ThomsonThe Lord is my support, my refuge and my deliverer. My God is my helper, in Him I will trust: my protector, the horn of my salvation and my defender.
BrentonThe heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims the work of his hands.
GreekΟἱ οὐρανοὶ διηγοῦνται δόξαν Θεοῦ, ποίησιν δὲ χειρῶν αὐτοῦ ἀναγγέλλει τὸ στερέωμα.

ThomsonIn songs of praise I will call on the Lord, and I shall be saved from mine enemies.
BrentonDay to day utters speech, and night to night proclaims knowledge.
GreekἩμέρα τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐρεύγεται ῥῆμα, καὶ νὺξ νυκτὶ ἀναγγέλλει γνῶσιν.

ThomsonThe pangs of death encompassed me; and floods of iniquity startled me.
BrentonThere are no speeches or words, in which their voices are not heard.
GreekΟὐκ εἰσὶ λαλιαὶ οὐδὲ λόγοι, ὧν οὐχὶ ἀκούονται αἱ φωναὶ αὐτῶν·

ThomsonThe pangs of Hades surrounded me, and the snares of death were before me.
BrentonTheir voice is gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.
GreekΕἰς πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἐξῆλθεν ὁ φθόγγος αὐτῶν, καὶ εἰς τὰ πέρατα τῆς οἰκουμένης τὰ ῥήματα αὐτῶν·

ThomsonIn my distress I called on the Lord, and to my God I raised my cry. From His holy temple He heard my voice; and my cry before Him reached His ears.
BrentonIn the sun he has set his tabernacle; and he comes forth as a bridegroom out of his chamber: he will exult as a giant to run his course.
Greekἐν τῷ ἡλίῳ ἔθετο τὸ σκήνωμα αὐτοῦ, καὶ αὐτὸς ὡς νυμφίος ἐκπορευόμενος ἐκ παστοῦ αὐτοῦ· ἀγαλλιάσεται ὡς γίγας δραμεῖν ὁδὸν αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonThen was the earth shaken: it trembled; and the foundations of the hills were convulsed and shaken; because at mine enemies God was incensed.
BrentonHis going forth is from the extremity of heaven, and his circuit to the other end of heaven: and no one shall be hidden from his heat.
GreekἈπʼ ἄκρου τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἡ ἔξοδος αὐτοῦ· καὶ τὸ κατάντημα αὐτοῦ ἕως ἄκρου τοῦ οὐρανοῦ· καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ὃς ἀποκρυβήσεται τὴν θέρμην αὐτοῦ.

ThomsonA smoke ascended in His ire, and at His presence a fire flamed, by which coals were kindled to a glow.
BrentonThe law of the Lord is perfect, converting souls: the testimony of the Lord is faithful, instructing babes.
GreekὉ νόμος τοῦ Κυρίου ἄμωμος ἐπιστρέφων ψυχὰς, ἡ μαρτυρία Κυρίου πιστὴ σοφίζουσα νήπια.

ThomsonAnd He bowed the heaven and came down, and darkness was under His feet.
BrentonThe ordinances of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is bright, enlightening the eyes.
GreekΤὰ δικαιώματα Κυρίου εὐθέα εὐφραίνοντα καρδίαν, ἡ ἐντολὴ Κυρίου τηλαυγὴς φωτίζουσα ὀφθαλμούς.

ThomsonHe mounted on cherubs and flew—He flew on the wings of winds.
BrentonThe fear of the Lord is pure, enduring for ever and ever: the judgments of the Lord are true, and justified altogether.
GreekὉ φόβος Κυρίου ἁγνὸς διαμένων εἰς αἰῶνα αἰῶνος, τὰ κρίματα Κυρίου ἀληθινὰ δεδικαιωμένα ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό·

ThomsonBut He made darkness His covering, His tent around Him was dark water in clouds of air.
BrentonTo be desired more than gold, and much precious stone: sweeter also than honey and the honey-comb.
GreekἘπιθυμητὰ ὑπὲρ χρυσίον καὶ λίθον τίμιον πολὺν, καὶ γλυκύτερα ὑπὲρ μέλι καὶ κηρίον.

ThomsonAt the flash of the lightning before Him, the clouds burst. Hail stones and coals of fire!
BrentonFor thy servant keeps to them: in the keeping of them there is great reward.
GreekΚαὶ γὰρ ὁ δοῦλός σου φυλάσσει αὐτὰ, ἐν τῷ φυλάσσειν αὐτὰ ἀνταπόδοσις πολλή.

ThomsonThen the Lord thundered from heaven, the Most High uttered His voice:
BrentonWho will understand his transgressions? purge thou me from my secret sins.
GreekΠαραπτώματα τίς συνήσει; ἐκ τῶν κρυφίων μου καθάρισόν με,

ThomsonHe sent forth His bolts and scattered them: He multiplied His lightnings and confounded them.
BrentonAnd spare thy servant the attack of strangers: if they do not gain the dominion over me, then shall I be blameless, and I shall be clear from great sin.
Greekκαὶ ἀπὸ ἀλλοτρίων φεῖσαι τοῦ δούλου σου· ἐὰν μή μου κατακυριεύσωσι, τότε ἄμωμος ἔσομαι, καὶ καθαρισθήσομαι ἀπὸ ἁμαρτίας μεγάλης.

ThomsonThen were seen the head springs of waters, and the foundations of the world were disclosed, at Thy rebuke, O Lord—at the blowing of the blast of Thine anger.
BrentonSo shall the sayings of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be pleasing continually before thee, O Lord my helper, and my redeemer.
GreekΚαὶ ἔσονται εἰς εὐδοκίαν τὸ λόγια τοῦ στόματός μου, καὶ ἡ μελέτη τῆς καρδίας μου ἐνώπιόν σου διαπαντός· Κύριε βοηθέ μου, καὶ λυτρωτά μου.
