Thomson(p) LET us praise Thee, O God; let us praise and invoke Thy name. Let me proclaim all Thy wonderous works.

GreekΕἰς τὸ τέλος ἐν ὕμνοις, ψαλμὸς τῷ Ἀσάφ· ᾠδὴ πρὸς τὸν Ἀσσύριον.

Thomson(J) When I find a suitable time, I execute righteous judgment.
BrentonGod is known in Judea; his name is great in Israel.
GreekΓνωστὸς ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ ὁ Θεὸς, ἐν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ μέγα τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ.

Thomson(p) The land, with all its inhabitants, is wasted. (J) It was I who strengthened the pillars thereof.
BrentonAnd his place has been in peace, and his dwelling-place in Sion.
GreekΚαὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν εἰρήνῃ ὁ τόπος αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὸ κατοικητήριον αὐτοῦ ἐν Σιών.

ThomsonI ordered the transgressors not to transgress, and said to sinners, Exalt not a horn.
BrentonThere he broke the power of the bows, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Pause.
GreekἘκεῖ συνέτριψε τὰ κράτη τῶν τόξων, ὅπλον καὶ ῥομφαίαν καὶ πόλεμον· διάψαλμα.

ThomsonLift not up your horn on high; speak not iniquity against God.
BrentonThou dost wonderfully shine forth from the everlasting mountains.
GreekΦωτίζεις σὺ θαυμαστῶς ἀπὸ ὀρέων αἰωνίων,

ThomsonFor it is neither from east nor from west, nor is it from desert mountains;
BrentonAll the simple ones in heart were troubled; all the men of wealth have slept their sleep, and have found nothing in their hands.
Greekἐταράχθησαν πάντες οἱ ἀσύνετοι τῇ καρδίᾳ· ὕπνωσαν ὕπνον αὐτῶν, καὶ οὐχ εὗρον οὐδὲν πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες τοῦ πλούτου ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν.

Thomsonfor God is judge;—He humbleth one and He exalteth another.
BrentonAt thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, the riders on horses slumbered.
GreekἈπὸ ἐπιτιμήσεώς σου, ὁ Θεὸς Ἰακὼβ, ἐνύσταξαν οἱ ἐπιβεβηκότες τοὺς ἵππους.

ThomsonFor in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, filled with mixed wine of horror; and out of this He hath poured into that: but the dregs of it are not emptied out; all the sinners of the land shall drink it.
BrentonThou art terrible; and who shall withstand thee, because of thine anger?
GreekΣὺ φοβερὸς εἶ, καὶ τίς ἀντιστήσεταί σοι ἀπὸ τῆς ὀργῆς σου;

Thomson(p) Let me then exult with joy forever, and tune my lyre for the God of Jacob.

Thomson(J) I will break all the horns of sinners, but the horn of the righteous shall be exalted.

BrentonFor the inward thought of man shall give thanks to thee: and the memorial of his inward thought shall keep a feast to thee.
GreekὍτι ἐνθύμιον ἀνθρώπου ἐξομολογήσεταί σοι, καὶ ἐγκατάλειμμα ἐνθυμίου ἑορτάσει σοι.
