ThomsonO GOD, nations are come into Thine inheritance: they have polluted Thy holy temple. They have made Jerusalem a depository for summer fruits.

ThomsonThey have given the carcasses of Thy servants to be meat for the birds of the air—the flesh of Thy saints, to the wild beasts of the earth.

BrentonAttend, O Shepherd of Israel, who guidest Joseph like a flock; thou who sittest upon the cherubs, manifest thyself;

ThomsonHow long, O Lord, wilt Thou be angry? Shall Thy jealousy burn like fire forever?

BrentonO Lord God of hosts, how long art thou angry with the prayer of thy servant?

GreekΚύριε ὁ Θεὸς τῶν δυνάμεων, ἕως πότε ὀργίζῃ ἐπὶ τὴν προσευχὴν τοῦ δούλου σου;

ThomsonPour out Thy wrath on the nations that have not acknowledged Thee; and on kingdoms which have not invoked Thy name.

BrentonThou wilt feed us with bread of tears; and wilt cause us to drink tears by measure.

ThomsonRemember not our former iniquities: let Thy tender mercies overtake us speedily: as we are greatly distressed;

BrentonTurn us, O Lord God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. Pause.

GreekΚύριε ὁ Θεὸς τῶν δυνάμεων ἐπίστρεψον ἡμᾶς, καὶ ἐπίφανον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου, καὶ σωθησόμεθα· διάψαλμα.

Thomsonhelp us, O God, our saviour: for Thy glory of Thy name deliver us; and pardon our sins for Thy name’s sake.

ThomsonPerhaps they may say among the nations, Where is their God? Let therefore the avengement of the blood of Thy servants, which hath been shed; be known among the nations in our sight.

ThomsonLet the groans of the prisoners come before Thee. According to the mighty power of Thine arm; protect the children of them who are slain.

ThomsonRetribute to these neighbours of ours—into their bosom sevenfold; their reproach, with which they have reproached Thee, O Lord.

Brentonand restore that which thy right hand has planted: and look on the son of man whom thou didst strengthen for thyself.
