ThomsonHE who dwelleth under the protection of the Most High shall lodge in the shelter of the God of heaven.
BrentonA Psalm of a Song for the Sabbath-day.
GreekΨαλμὸς ᾠδῆς εἰς τὴν ἡμέραν τοῦ σαββάτου.

ThomsonHe will say to the Lord, Thou art my helper: my God is my refuge, I will trust in Him.
BrentonIt is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to thy name, O thou Most High;
GreekἈγαθὸν τὸ ἐξομολογεῖσθαι τῷ Κυρίῳ, καὶ ψάλλειν τῷ ὀνόματί σου, ὕψιστε·

ThomsonBecause He will deliver thee from the snare of hunters; and tumultuous accusation—
Brentonto proclaim thy mercy in the morning, and thy truth by night,
Greekτοῦ ἀναγγέλλειν τοπρωῒ τὸ ἔλεός σου, καὶ τὴν ἀλήθειάν σου κατὰ νύκτα,

Thomsonwith His breast will overshadow thee: therefore under His wings thou shalt rest secure. His truth will encompass thee with armour.

Greekἐν δεκαχόρδῳ ψαλτηρίῳ, μετʼ ᾠδῆς ἐν κιθάρᾳ.

ThomsonThou shalt not be afraid of the terror by night; nor of the arrow which flieth by day—
BrentonFor thou, O Lord, hast made me glad with thy work: and in the operations of thy hands will I exult.
GreekὍτι εὔφρανάς με, Κύριε, ἐν τῷ ποιήματί σου, καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἔργοις τῶν χειρῶν σου ἀγαλλιάσομαι.

Thomsonof the thing which walketh in darkness; nor of mischance and the demon of noonday.
BrentonHow have thy works been magnified, O Lord! thy thoughts are very deep.
GreekὩς ἐμεγαλύνθη τὰ ἔργα σου, Κύριε; σφόδρα ἐβαθύνθησαν οἱ διαλογισμοί σου.

ThomsonA thousand may fall at thy side; and ten thousand at thy right hand: but it shall not approach thee.
BrentonA foolish man will not know, and a senseless man will not understand this.
GreekἈνὴρ ἄφρων οὐ γνώσεται, καὶ ἀσύνετος οὐ συνήσει ταῦτα.

ThomsonBut thou with thine eyes shalt observe, and see the reward of the wicked.
BrentonWhen the sinners spring up as the grass, and all the workers of iniquity have watched; it is that they may be utterly destroyed for ever.
GreekἘν τῷ ἀνατεῖλαι τοὺς ἁμαρτωλοὺς ὡσεὶ χόρτον, καὶ διέκυψαν πάντες οἱ ἐργαζόμενοι τὴν ἀνομίαν, ὅπως ἂν ἐξολοθρευθῶσιν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ αἰῶνος.

ThomsonBecause Thou, O Lord, my hope; hast made the Most High thy refuge;
BrentonBut thou, O Lord, art most high for ever.
GreekΣὺ δὲ ὕψιστος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα, Κύριε.

Thomsonno evils shall come upon thee, nor shall a scourge approach thy dwelling.
BrentonFor, behold, thine enemies shall perish; and all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.
GreekὍτι ἰδοὺ οἱ ἐχθροί σου ἀπολοῦνται, καὶ διασκορπισθήσονται πάντες οἱ ἐργαζόμενοι τὴν ἀνομίαν.

ThomsonFor He will give His angels a charge concerning thee; to keep thee in all thy ways;
BrentonBut my horn shall be exalted as the horn of a unicorn; and mine old age with rich mercy.
GreekΚαὶ ὑψωθήσεται ὡς μονοκέρωτος τὸ κέρας μου, καὶ τὸ γῆράς μου ἐν ἐλέῳ πίονι.

Thomsonwith their hands they shall bear thee up; shouldst thou chance to strike thy foot against a stone.
BrentonAnd mine eye has seen mine enemies, and mine ear shall hear the wicked that rise up against me.
GreekΚαὶ ἐπεῖδεν ὁ ὀφθαλμός μου ἐν τοῖς ἐχθροῖς μου, καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἐπανισταμένοις ἐπʼ ἐμὲ πονηρευομένοις ἀκούσεται τὸ οὖς μου.

ThomsonUpon an asp and a basilisk thou shalt tread: and trample down a lion and a dragon.
BrentonThe righteous shall flourish as a palm-tree: he shall be increased as the cedar in Libanus.
GreekΔίκαιος ὡς φοῖνιξ ἀνθήσει, ὡς ἡ κέδρος ἡ ἐν τῷ Λιβάνῳ πληθυνθήσεται·

ThomsonBecause he trusted in Me, I will deliver him: I will protect him because he knew My name.
BrentonThey that are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
GreekΠεφυτευμένοι ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ Κυρίου, ἐν ταῖς αὐλαῖς τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἐξανθήσουσι.

ThomsonHe will call on Me, and I will answer him: I am with him in affliction: I will deliver him and honour him.
BrentonThen shall they be increased in a fine old age; and they shall be prosperous; that they may declare
GreekΤότε πληθυνθήσονται ἐν γήρει πίονι, καὶ εὐπαθοῦντες ἔσονται

ThomsonWith length of days I will satisfy him; and I will shew him My salvation.
Brentonthat the Lord my God is righteous, and there is no iniquity in him.
Greekτοῦ ἀναγγεῖλαι· ὅτι εὐθὴς Κύριος ὁ Θεός μου, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἀδικία ἐν αὐτῷ.
