ThomsonNOW after the death of Saul when David returned from the slaughter of the Amelekites, and had been at Sekelak two days,
BrentonAnd it came to pass after Saul was dead, that David returned from smiting Amalec, and David abode two days in Sekelac.

Thomsonbehold there came a man, on the third day, from the camp—from the people of Saul—with his clothes rent and earth on his head; and when he came to David he fell on the ground, and made obeisance to him.
BrentonAnd it came to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came from the camp, from the people of Saul, and his garments were rent, and earth was upon his head: and it came to pass when he went in to David, that he fell upon the earth, and did obeisance to him.

ThomsonAnd David said to him, Whence comest thou? And he replied, I have escaped from the camp of Israel.

ThomsonThereupon David said to him, What is the news? Tell me. And when he said, The people fled from the battle, and many of the people have fallen, and died; Saul also is dead, and his son Jonathan;
BrentonAnd David said to him, What is the matter? tell me. And he said, The people fled out of the battle, and many of the people have fallen and are dead, and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead.

ThomsonAnd the young man who told him said, By accident I happened to be on mount Gelbua, and behold Saul was leaning on his spear; and lo! the chariots and horsemen were close upon him;
BrentonAnd the young man that brought the tidings, said to him, I happened accidentally to be upon mount Gelbue; and, behold, Saul was leaning upon his spear, and, behold, the chariots and captains of horse pressed hard upon him.
