ThomsonNOW when he had measured on this side and that to the ceiling of the porch and to the galleries adjoining the house, he then led me into the inner court on the east, conducting me towards the north gate.
BrentonAnd he brought me into the inner court eastward, opposite the northern gate: and he brought me in, and behold five chambers near the vacant space, and near the northern partition,

ThomsonAnd lo! there were five chambers adjoining the space and the north partition wall, in length fronting the north one hundred cubits and in breadth fifty cubits,

ThomsonAnd over against the chambers was a walk ten cubits broad and a hundred cubits long, and their doors were towards the north.

ThomsonAnd in like manner there were walks for the upper stories. For the upper piazza was taken from the building and out of that which was a piazza below was made a platform. So there was a piazza and a platform; and this was the case with two of the piazzas,
BrentonAnd the upper walks were in like manner: for the peristyle projected from it, even from the range of columns below, and there was a space between; so were there a peristyle and a space between, and so were there two porticos.

Thomsonfor there were three one above another. But they had not pillars like the pillars of the outer piazzas; therefore the upper chambers were straightened more than the middle and the middle more than those on the ground.
BrentonFor they were triple, and they had not pillars like the pillars of the outer ones: therefore they projected from the lower ones and the middle ones from the ground.

ThomsonFor the chambers which looked into the outer court were fifty cubits deep and were the fore front of these. The whole building was a hundred cubits long.
BrentonFor the length of the chambers looking toward the inner court was fifty cubits, and these are the ones that front the others; the whole was a hundred cubits.

ThomsonNow there were doors of these chambers opening into an entry facing the east. So there was a passage through them from the outer court along this entry to the lighted walk at the head of this passage.
BrentonAnd there were doors of these chambers for an outlet towards the east, so that one should go through them out of the outer court,

Thomsonand the walk before them were of the same measures as those of the chambers on the north. Their length was the same; and their breadth the same. And all their outlets and all their windings were the same; and their lights and their doors, the same.
BrentonAnd the walk was in front of them, according to the measures of the chambers toward the north, both according to the length of them, and according to the breadth of them, and according to all their openings, and according to all their turnings, and according to their lights, and according to their doors.

ThomsonAnd these chambers on the south had in like manner doors from the head of the walk into an entry which was a reed broad and gave a passage to the east.
BrentonSo were the measures of the chambers toward the south, and according to the doors at the entrance of the walk, as it were the distance of a reed for light, and eastward as one went in by them.

ThomsonAnd he said to me, These chambers on the north and those on the south which are in front of the spaces, are the chambers of the sanctuary, in which the priests the sons of Sadduk, who come near to the Lord, are to eat the holy meats and where they are to lay up the most holy things, the sacrifice and the sin offerings and the trespass offerings. Because this is a holy place
BrentonAnd he said to me, The chambers toward the north, and the chambers toward the south, in front of the void spaces, these are the chambers of the sanctuary, wherein the priests the sons of Sadduc, who draw nigh to the Lord, shall eat the most holy things: and there shall they lay the most holy things, and the meat-offering, and the sin-offerings, and the trespass-offerings; because the place is holy.

Thomsonnone but the priests are to go in there. That they who offer up the offerings may be continually holy, and that none may touch the garments in which they minister because they are holy, the priests must not go out from the sanctuary into the outer court. And when they are to mix with the people, they must put on other garments.
BrentonNone shall go in thither except the priests, and they shall not go forth of the holy place into the outer court, that they that draw nigh to me may be continually holy, and may not touch their garments in which they minister, with defilement, for they are holy; and they shall put on other garments whenever they come in contact with the people.

ThomsonNow when he had completed the measuring of the inner house, he then led me out by the way of the gate facing the east and measured the plot of the house all around in order.
BrentonSo the measurement of the house within was accomplished: and he brought me forth by the way of the gate that looks eastward, and measured the plan of the house round about in order.
GreekΚαὶ συνετελέσθη ἡ διαμέτρησις τοῦ οἴκου ἔσωθεν· καὶ ἐξήγαγέ με καθʼ ὁδὸν τῆς πύλης τῆς βλεπούσης πρὸς ἀνατολὰς, καὶ διεμέτρησε τὸ ὑπόδειγμα τοῦ οἴκου κυκλόθεν ἐν διατάξει.

BrentonAnd he stood behind the gate looking eastward, and measured five hundred cubits with the measuring reed.

ThomsonThe four sides of the height and breadth of this same reed. And he appointed this, namely, the surrounding parapet wall which was five hundred cubits on the east side and five hundred cubits broad, to make a separation between the Holies and the vacant space before the wall, which was to be included in the plot of the house.
BrentonThe four sides he measured by the same reed, and he marked out the house and the circumference of the parts round about, a space of five hundred cubits eastward, and a breadth of five hundred cubits, to make a division between the sanctuary and the outer wall, that belonged to the design of the house.
